Watching it again right now.
It's just Candy playing Candy, but there is something special about this movie.
Anyone have opinions or thoughts on this movie?

I like it. I wouldn't say Candy is just playing Candy.

I don't think Candy ever just plays Candy.
That said … this is not my favorite John Candy film. He plays the role fine but I just don't like the character he is playing very much.

Well the character is supposed to be somewhat unappealing. A 40-year old bachelor that has no job, doesn't want a wife/kids, hangs with trashy people, etc.

I guess it feels weird then to watch a movie when you don't like the main character. lol. But then again, an actor's charisma and talent can carry the day.

Miles: Who's gonna take care of us?
Cindy Russell: Mr. and Mrs. Neville.
Miles: Is that a joke?
Cindy Russell: You don't like the Nevilles?
Miles: Their dog's a ball sniffer.

I think it is probably his finest movie this side of Planes Trains & Automobiles. Alas, that dank 80's vibe to it has always kinda been a turnoff. The rebel punk wannabe teen girl cliché was stale.

The only standalone Candy film I’ve seen. Classic comedy.

I’ve always loved it. There’s so many moments...Buck with the principal...bowling...you know what a hatchet is?...ever hear of a tune up?...get in your mouse, and get outta here!

My favorite John Candy movie, and I like most of his stuff. I get teary-eyed at that closing shot of him, he left us far too soon.

It's fine. Kind of standard 80s fare but it's got some heart to it.
