Disney is interested in a treatment by the same writers from Deadpool and Zombieland. Too bad it likely won't be rated....Arrrrr!!!!!!!

How do you reboot a franchise that is still pumping out loads of money? You reboot something failed, or old...not....I don't understand.
Also Johnny Depp is 70-80% of what makes the Pirates movies fun. Take him out and the heart goes out of it.
Or are they rebooting because Capn' Jack doesn't play well in the MeToo era? That would be retarded enough, but like, that's what pirates do.

Aye mate, I think that's at the heart of the storm The admiralty at Disney likely no longer like the cut of his jib and decided to chart a course to unmarked waters to keep this franchise afloat or abandon ship. I last heard of them trying to add a wench to the next picture for ballast.

I thought the films were getting less and less popular (while also getting longer and longer). A reboot seems pointless, besides a lame attempt to keep the cash coming instead of, I don't know, developing a new franchise about something else.

Well I assumed that's what Jungle Cruise was for, unless it gets pushed back again.

Exactly! Also Johnny Depp is 70-80% of what makes the Pirates movies fun. Take him out and the heart goes out of it. Johnny Depp's portrayal of "Captain Jack Sparrow" is the Number One reason why I watch these films... It isn't the only reason... But without him playing the role, I can't see myself enjoying these films as much... If at all... I've also loved the Captain Sparrow/Captain Barbossa love/hate relationship... I just can't see those portrayals being anywhere near as good without Depp and Geoffrey Rush playing those characters. I think this is a really bad idea. And it is just too soon anyway...

I would rather have NOTHING after the last one than a reboot (and this is coming from an actual fan).

But I guess that's splitting hairs. Oh yeah, I liked it too. The post-credit scene may have been anticipating us for another sequel, but seeing as how we’re getting this, I think I’d want them to end at the last one rather than start all over. It just won’t be the same without Depp, or the other cast.

Didn't the last one come out just a few years ago? Already we're getting a reboot? Plus, Depp's character has grown tiresome.

I stopped watching after the fourth movie, because everything except the original is awful.

What the hell? Really strange decision from Disney...they had lightning in a jar with the first one. "Cutthroat Island" killed pirate-based movies until the first of the modern "Pirates" saga came out. And it was a much bigger success than I think anyone would have predicted. I only really liked the first, but the sequels aren't badly made movies...though I mostly came back to look at those gorgeous locations, the ships, and Geoffrey Rush (he stole every scene). They're beautifully shot, but the lore got too convoluted for me by part 3. And as an above poster mentioned, they're all WAY too long!

So OK, they keeping Sparrow? So you're hiring someone to do a [bad] Jack Sparrow impersonation. Or a totally different character, when Sparrow IS the franchise?
Looks to be a lose/lose.

A while back, as I mentioned before whilst in Long John Silver mode, they were weighing on including a female character like the one named Red who's from the ride like Jack Sparrow.

I don't think the Jack Sparrow character has had much growth as a character over the course of the franchise. Has he?

They're rebooting a franchise that had it's last installment only a year ago? I'm lost for words.
Also, if Depp isn't involved then there's really no point. Depp is pretty much the selling point of the series.
Who the he'll wants to see a Pirates film without it's main money drawer?
