Indiana Jones is an American archetype, a cowboy traveling to foreign countries setting them right in the search for God. The strange thing is that while we get to see Indy's father (the original James Bond) we never see his mother. Even stranger is just how much people bend over backwards in these movies to please God.
In Raiders during the ending scene it is questionable whether the "ghosts" melted the Nazi's faces because they were evil or because they looked in God's ark. And they would have done the same thing to Indy if he had not kept his eyes closed.
In Temple Indy goes to India to fight against Pagan Satanists in the Thugee cult. The British occupation of India is shown is a positive light when they come to the rescue at the end. Interestingly the other pagans of India are shown in a positive light when their town is rejuvenated.
In Crusade once again people are bending over backwards for God. Knights wasting hundreds of years of their lives living in some fucking cave, with traps for people who don't kneel. Terrorists trying to kill Indy because his quest for the Ark is for his "glory" not the Lord's.
In Kingdom people make the mistake of thinking there were aliens in the movie. Those were not aliens. Those were interdimensionals. Crystal Skull is actually better written in term of having a sympathetic villain instead of a cartoonish bad guy.
