Steve Winwood Lita Ford Rod Stewart Rod Stewart? Prior to his highly successful solo career Stewart achieveed fame as singer with the Faces. I would say his solo creer built on his career in the group. Steve Winwood even more so. While he did have some success going solo, IMO the most successful part of his career would have been with Traffic and Blind Faith. One could say his popularity was hampered in the groups mainly because as a soloist he had more scope releasing singles than with either Traffic or Blind Faith whose fame rests primarily on their albums.
Stewart has had far more commercial success as a solo artist than with the Faces and the Jeff Beck Group. Maybe not artistic success.
Same with Winwood. Far more commercial success as a solo artist.

You have to be kidding. As good as the were, The Faces never broke any sales records. Solo, Rod the Mod sold over 100,000,000 records and had six consecutive #1 albums. And I would bet that Winwood solo sold more records in three months at his peak than Blind Faith did in their career. Question did say "successful", not "better"
