I'm building a website and was hoping to get some feedback. Please be brutally honest, I won't get my feelings hurt. The site is MoviePix.appIt's a Movie/TVSeries discovery app which uses statistics/AI to learn your personality and give you personalized recommendations. It can also combine your personality with those on your "friends" list to recommend something you both would like to watch together. It also lets you track your seen list & watch list & watch trailers. The main questions I have are: Overall do you like/dislike the app? Is it something you would ever use? Does the app give good recommendations based on your personality after you've rated a few movies? Is there anything confusing on the site that needs clarification? Do you have any ideas for new features/improvements? Thanks for your help!

I have also spent some time clicking around and "testing" it.
I like the design a lot. Its clean. I like how user friendly the whole site is. I like how fast / simple the interaction is. I also like the entire idea and concept of it, so you already have a fan here.
I cannot yet evaluate properly how well it estimates what I like but so far from what I have tried it does match my taste fairly well but then again I am a film fan i love almost all genres and a lot of different movies (as far as style and contenct goes).
What I would suggest you change is PERHAPS call it your "taste" instead of "personality" as personality to me points at something else and also sounds a bit intrusive. What I would suggest you add, (and perhaps you already plan on this but just to be sure): privacy tab. Include it as an easy to find tab either directly on the site or on the menu (not hidden anywhere under a third subtab like some sites have it). There explain what personal data you collect and dont collect and what you do with it.
for example: If I log in with my email, what do you do with the email addres? how is it stored/processed. Do you/would you ever share it with any third party? for profit or non profit. Or subcontractors? Do you collect cookies? You must. I wanna know which ones. Do you share my data with my "friends" once I indicate I have any? If so, what data exactly? Only what I like, or something else? Can I still use your site and get all the features of it without you collecting any data on me? I understand I can browse it without logging in, does that mean you then dont colllect any data on such user? What about IP addresses? MAC addresses? Location, region, language used, etc etc. Do you see/collect/process those? if so, tell me how and for what purpose. What is the geographical location of your servers where you store the data? How are my data secured? Do you let other sites see my preferences or exchange any data with them?
I am sure you see where I am going with it.
If you dont include a privacy tab you expose yourself to all sorts of potential problems and penalties, the strictest ones coming from EU and Asia, but even within the US there are some states like California or Massachusetts who have almost equally strict laws on this, not to mention Canada or Argentina, both also up there. If you plan to generate profit from it one day, and hope you do, this is incremental liability you need to handle. even if you don't plan to use this for profit its better to limit the risk for yourself.
When you do draft your privacy language, make sure its AS SIMPLE and easy to understand as possible. Good test is "would my grandma/my six year old niece understand what I mean?". Try to fit it all on one page max. No lengthly legal mambo jumbo. Also even if you think you DONT collect any data on the users, it most likely is not true, the legal definitions of personal data are SO BROAD and VAGUE these days that its just not worth the risk. Plus I am sure you do collect some.
to recap: i like the site, especially the design and easy flow of it, I am excited about playing with it more, cannot speak on its actual ability to predict my taste and once you up the privacy info as well I think it could be really great. best of luck!!

Nora, Thanks for the awesome feedback. I agree I should set up a privacy page which explains what I collect & how I use it in very simple terms.
What was the bug/omission you found?
Let me know if it gives you good recommendations once you've had some time to play with it.
Thanks!
