Just received an email from FilmStruck that as of November 28, the service will be shutting down.
As this has been my only source of classic films, I am deeply depressed.

F^ck you AT&T!
A source familiar with AT&T’s strategy said the telco is looking to eliminate peripheral projects that aren’t major producers of revenue. “They felt Time Warner overall had too many initiatives,” the exec said. “[AT&T] have their hands full. They have no time to think about, ‘What do we do with this growth property?'”

I feel for you neurosturgeon since it has been a joy for you! Movie channels shutting down everywhere, replaced by cheap "funny things we found on youtube" programs, at least were I live.

Not a subscriber here, Linda -- but very sorry to learn this. It was an important source of film viewing for you.

Here. An online petition has been making its rounds on the internet, and its a free petition. It probably won't change matters but maybe it will, after all the newspapers are filled with stories condemning the closure and many important filmmakers have voiced their disapproval. Anyway, here is the petition. www.change.org/p/warnermedia-keep-filmstruck-alive

Yes, definitely very bad news. I'm not sure where Criterion will go now since this is the second streaming service they've been on.

I think with Disney buying Fox it will have a negative impact on old film releases since they have a bad record for archival stuff. Would not be surprised in the least if they try shutting down as many old film services as they can so as to force people to watch the new crap on their streaming services.
Best to hang on to vhs and dvds if you still got them.
People think the corporations are motivated only by making money but their actions suggest they want to limit access to content. All it takes is a change in executive policy...
