I don’t know, but it could be due to time saving. Nonetheless, I prefer my gore to be practical.

It can be cheaper and easier. Although most of the time it looks like shit. I'm really hardpressed to think CGI is cheaper and easier than some red dye and props, unless maybe were talking bottom of the barrel, Playstation 1 style CGI.
