The yanks REALLY hates this franchise. Well, it is British humour.
As an Aussie, I tend to appreciate it much more than American humour.
Each to their own.

I was surprised to hear there was a 3, too. Didn't seem as if the first two were successful enough to warrant it, but whatever. It's Rowan, and I'll watch him in anything.
The drama series is a reboot of Maigret, from the Georges Simenon novels, which was an excellent French-produced series from a couple of decades back, starring the late Bruno Cremer. If this version is half as good, I'll be pleased. I've seen photos of Rowan in rig for the character, and he actually reminds me a bit physically of Cremer. I'm really anxious to see this version, as I love the idea of Atkinson playing a straight dramatic role.

I saw it yesterday and had a good laugh, even though I think I only watched parts of the first one and I am not even sure I was aware of the existence of the second one.

I loved the first two, but I hardly ever see films in theaters.

Well, the hoity toity Yanks have no concept of humor. They are too busy finding something to be annoyed about or offended by. You know, something meaningful.
I don't know much about Johnny English but Rowan Atkinson is pretty much the funniest man alive.
Dude made three generations (and counting) piss themselves laughing without saying a word.

I sure didn't see this advertised. I wonder how many people who enjoy Atkinson didn't even know this was out!

British humor always tends to go down well downunder, both OZ and NZ and I would say perhaps even SA. The poms like dry downunder humor as well. The Americans tend to have things more dumb-downed for them, or less satirical.
I'll ignore the bigoted "dumb-downed" comment for now. However, I love the irony of you thinking Johnny English is high brow sophistication but American humor is "dumb-downed". Rowan Atkinson has been doing the same tired slapstick that was several CENTURIES old when he ripped it off yet every idiot anglophile in this thread is clamoring to suck his balls. All while sneering at Americans because many of us find his antics a bit tedious and stupid. How dare we want our comedy to be funny.

Well, to be honest, I won't be seeing it because it looks ridiculous and I am not an Atkinson fan. It was a generalized comment, but will seize any opportunity to ridicule the US. ![](https://s26.postimg.cc/tek3suwt5/laugh.gif) Many of the posters here are bigots like you. I find the pride in their (your) hateful bigotry to be quite disheartening.
