10/10, one of the best. I like later Elvis, too, including all the film stuff, his 70s output, etc.

I really didn't get Elvis when I was young. His whole sound and image just seemed odd to me. I came around, though. Like the Blues, suddenly I just understood it. I was already a fan when I visited Graceland for the first time. At one point on the tour, there's a video of Elvis on stage in one of his early appearances that looked like it was shot from someone in the audience. The sheer power of his presence and the music just blew me away and I was transported to that time, imagining myself in that audience, hearing and seeing the revolutionary power of rock music for the first time.

Elvis is criminally underrated as a musician. He was a very very good guitar player and had much more musical knowledge that most would believe. The perception of many is that he was just a bumpkin who could sing and swivel his hips. He didn't write his own songs, but no one did before Buddy Holly and the Beatles. And his post Army career was a bit of a caricature but that was the Colonel's fault. He wasn't in the mold of the 60's musicians, writing their own music, reinventing rock and creating masterpieces. But he wan't the 50's rockers, who got their sheet music from their producer, sang the song and cashed the paycheck.
