I have seen it, it's a masterpiece of silent films.

One of the great silents and one of the greatest endings ever. Nearly perfect cinematography. I'd so love to see the orginal eight hour von Stroheim version. But only once, I'd wager.
Which DiMaggio are you, Vince or Dom?

Spectacular film for action. It taught me who Jean Hersholt was. I've seen the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award handed out at the Oscars.

I've never seen it but it's source, the novel McTeague by Frank Norris, is a superb read. I HAVE to see the film. Someday.

I've seen Greedy 1994, with Kirk Douglas and Michael J, Fox, it's said to have been based on the same source material, and that movie was not good at all.

You are certainly not alone in your assessment. I would like to see it again one of these days. I remember being particularly impressed by von Stroheim's direction. And I'd like to read the Frank Norris novel, "McTeague," upon which it's based. Always meant to, just never got around to it. Robert Altman actually did an operatic version of the novel on "Great Performances" on PBS, co-writing the libretto. I didn't see it, but wish I had. Link:
In the meantime, I feel the need to add some images from Greed:
Oh, the magic and mystery of the arts! To add to yours, the image of Trina wringing her hands when she thinks about the money ZaSu Pitts was really magnificent in Greed. Compare her look in the first picture to the one in mine. From the innocent girl to the evil shrew who would rather starve than spend her money.
