JURASSIC PARK III (2001) 3/5.
JURASSIC PARK III is the third instalment in the JURASSIC PARK film series. It is an American science fiction, which features a great deal of action and adventure. The screenplay was by Peter Buchman, Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor, the film was produced by Larry Franco and Kathleen Kennedy and it was directed by Joe Johnston. The film is an original story, although numerous scenes in it were ultimately inspired by Michael Crichton's two novels, JURASSIC PARK and THE LOST WORLD. This time around, the film soundtrack is provided by Don Davis.
The film takes place on Isla Sorna, off Central America's Pacific coast, which is the same island featured in THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK. This is where a divorced couple has tricked Doctor Alan Grant into going, in order to help them to find their lost son.
The film stars Sam Neill, William H Macy, Téa Leoni, Alessandro Nivola, Trevor Morgan, and Michael Jeter. Although it is a competently made film, with the same level of quality evident in its computer-generated imagery, special effects and sound effects as its predecessors, it is nonetheless a far less impressive film. However, it is still quite enjoyable and entertaining.

I liked it, but the petrodactyls make the movie I liked it, but the ending was too rushed and too sudden. They make a phone call and the military suddenly shows up.
I'd have preferred to see a few minutes worth of the inner cogs working away, interspersed with action on the island.
And why such a large military force at such short notice?

I agree. Definitely the leastest of the series. But those fucking Petrodactyls.

@ant-mac, I heard a rumor that the cliimax initally featured the marines battling dinosaurs (whether the Spinosaurus or Pteranodons I can't recall). That'd been more memorable indeed.

A few minutes worth of seeing the inner cogs working away, interspersed with action on the island, followed by the arrival of a smaller military force and a protracted battle between them and some dinosaurs would certainly have been interesting.
Perhaps with the deaths of a few main characters for more impact...
After all, Sam Neill is unlikely to come back.

My fav JP. JP1's kids are annoying. JP2's Michael Bay'esque final act is annoying. JW 1 & 2 are awful.
JP3 was the purest essence of monster movie the series has had - no cages, no walls, no stupid kids. It's also the shortest run time which helps a lot. My fav shot of JP3 is the raptor scurrying in the background as they advance on the pavilion. Like a shark's fin in the water, we know exactly what they're about to get into. JP3 was filmed largely on set indoors, a mighty achievement because it's not obvious. The artificial jungle is more claustrophobic & the lighting can be adjusted for greater effect - island skies can be fraught with overcast cloud cover, not as appealing.
The giant bird cage is one of my fav sequences of the franchise, great fun, tension, & action.

That's the whole point of the film. A divorced couple tricks Doctor Alan Grant into helping them to find their lost son.
Although he is generally less annoying than most of the other kids in the film series.

I think it is the best in terms of basic story-adventure. Sam Neill is given more to do-in JP 1 it felt like he was being restrained.
It's actually somewhat similar to Son of Kong whether by intention or not. In SOK Denham is traumatized by the Kong incident and through a revisit to the island, finds peace with himself. Grant also finds peace with himself by returning to the islands and engaging with the dinosaurs, especially the raptors.
The kid is less annoying.

5/10 Just OK. Kinda predictable yet watchable but not impressive.

It was certainly missing something, in my opinion.
