Earlier this year we had the 15th anniversary of "The Matrix Reloaded" and now it's time for the 15 anniversary of "The Matrix Revolutions" since both were filmed back-to-back and released the same year.
How has the film held up for you all after 15 years? What are the strengths/weaknesses of the film for you?
I will say I think the movie is in some ways better and in some ways worse than Reloaded. There is less pretension to it which plagued Reloaded, but there is less humanity to it or at least not as much as in Reloaded. It feels like it's more about the action than about the characters. As a conclusion to a trilogy, I have to admit it is weak and underwhelming. However, that doesn't mean it's not watchable because I do think it is.
A problem with this film series was the decision to make two sequels to the original instead of just doing it one at a time. Of course we know this was mainly done for financial reasons (or at least feels like it). It's as if the Wachowski's put effort into Reloaded and then realized they still had another film to work on and then just threw what they could into this film and see what would stick after cutting up Reloaded a bit to spread it out over two films.
Two of the biggest highlights of the film are the sentinel attack on Zion and the citizens taking up those power-loader things armed with machine guns to stop them as well as the final fight between Neo and Smith. These sequences are entertaining to watch, but it's hard to care about Zion citizens you don't know much about outside of that one kid who saves the day and about two characters who are basically flying invincible characters fighting each other.
So I guess in the end the sequels haven't held up so well, but that doesn't mean I think they're bad. They have their good points, but they also have their bad points. You could call Revolutions a watchable but also mixed bag.

I remember it being the first movie I ever saw in a theater that I was disappointed by. One guy even stood up and yelled "This movie f**king sucks!" while flipping off the screen.
There's definitely too much Zion and not enough Matrix in a movie called The Matrix. The whole train subplot was another boring waste of time. I actually did a fanedit where I combined both this and Reloaded into one two hour and twenty minute movie, which I find acceptable. I was even able to ditch the fake Oracle.

What would even be the point of doing that? 2 ) The Matrix is a retelling of the Christ legend. Neo had to descend into Limbo. It's part of the story. 3 ) The original actress died.

I don't know, but no one complained. 2. That was supposed to be between the crucifixion and resurrection, so OOPS. 3. Speaking of obvious points like Neo being Jesus - yeah, no sh*t. I was a 10 year old who'd never even stepped foot in a church and even I knew that was limbo. Do plodding subplots and bad recastings having excuses make them good things? For me, no, but you do you.

Surely the fact that limbo comes at the wrong time in the story is a perfectly reasonable point. Or am I an immature asshole by responding to your condescending checklist of obvious facts with condescension in kind? I know there was no name calling in my post, which makes me feel like you're the one being immature. Then again, you must be very old and wise indeed to spot Jesus allegory in The Matrix.

It sucks. Fast forward to December 2003 on how to really end a trilogy.

I liked it.
Had some fantastic action scenes that went on a bit long and the philosophy portion got too boring.

The second one was so bad I never bothered with the third.

The second one was so bad I never bothered with the third. Lol I think 50% 0f all movie goers would agree. Just check out the massive drop off in box office! From 280 million for the second one domestic to 140 million for the third.

Reloaded had pent up demand, Revolutions came out a year later.
I would be surprised if Reloaded benefited from repeat viewings although the special effects were pretty spectacular for the time.

I liked the first Matrix, but I have no interests in the sequels. Neo is basically God by the end of the first one, I don't see any point in continuing the story after that.

One of my favorite scenes in an action film was when the Sentinels, which we think are being held off by artillery, burst through like nothing. Considering all the movies that that have hordes of cloned bad guy armies (I'm looking at you nearly all MCU final acts), I wish more movies would copy that scene to convey despair.

Well, he's not really like God. He's just an upgraded piece in one server of a massive mainframe. He was a Pentium Processor in a x286 world that was being run by Big Blue supercomputer. That was one of my problems with the films. If he were the One, he should have been even more powerful. Instead, Smith as a virus was although Neo was at least wireless. Smith needed a USB cord.
