With my stopwatch I timed last nights game between the Packers and the Cheatriots. Between the snap to the end of the play it all totals up to a bit over 14 min. Not 60. 14. Which means that a football player spends more time just standing there than playing. Thank the genius inventor of the DVR so that I can zip through the goddamn fucking commercials instead of wasting 3 hrs for a 14 minute game.

Just happened to hear recently that the AVERAGE for most games is even LESS (closer to 11 minutes)! Wouldn't be surprised to find out that there isn't anything even CLOSE to 11 (much less 14) minutes of 'action' in most four hour MLB games...... SAVE FERRIS

SAVE FERRIS3 minutes is not that much of a difference. I'll prob. do it again and see it if changes. There are factors involved such as hurry up offenses which the Cheaters did a lot of. I think MLB is around 8 minutes maybe. There is a lot of time between pitches.

It's kind of subjective in other sports as to what qualifies as 'action' so it would be tough to compare. But I'd wonder how you'd quantify it and how it would shake out in soccer or basketball or tennis or something if some standard could be reached. While football has defined plays that start with the snap of the ball and ends with the way being called dead (there's a lot of pre-snap activity that isn't being counted obviously) other sports include a lot of standing around or jogging casually that hardly should counts as 'action' either. I suppose tennis would be easy to quantify too

This is always a worthless 'fact' because it never takes into account what happens at the line before the snap. There are substitutions, adjustments, and movement from the offense and defense in between snaps.

So 14 more minutes than every soccer game?
