I feel ya. In my area, our internet isn't even good enough to watch a 2min trailer, so streaming on Netflix is impossible. If it doesn't come to one of our mom'n'pop theatres or out on DVD, I don't get to see it. 😖😫😔 Netflix isn't an issue for me, I was hoping to catch it in the theater. Sucks that your internet is so spotty. Petition your municipal leaders to get better internet for your area, you shouldn't have to put up with that. Unfortunately, a large company bought out this whole area with a promise (nearly a decade ago) to make everything high speed, put all new regular-phone lines in, and make the cell service reliable. Instead, it is in worse shape than it was when they bought it. The area fines them, they don't pay or improve anything, plus don't fix half the old stuff that breaks. Worse. they are so horrible to their employees that they are ALWAYS under-staffed.

Overlord if it wasn't for J.J. - bane of franchises - Abrams and the black lead. A black guy has no business in WWII Germany. Tuskegee Airmen. An HBO movie of the same name in the 90's, and Red Tails, both about black men fighting for the U. S. OF A. in WWII. And there was Shoshanna's black boyfriend in German-occupied France in Inglorious Basterds. Who gives a fuck who plays what when it's a fictional story? A fictional story firmly in the sci-fi/horror genre, at that! So you would have had no problem if the paratrooper unit had included some female soldiers then? After all it's just fiction, right?

I am exaggerating to make a point. A mixed gender military unit in WWII is a worse offense to historical accuracy than one desegregated by race, but the principle is the same. The idea of black and white American soldiers going through basic training together in 1943/1944, or of a black sergeant commanding white troops is just preposterous. This is not just a small detail. It is actually offensive, because it denies the history of discrimination that still existed merely seventy years ago.
The worse thing is that it is really unnecessary. If the filmmakers really did not want to have an all-white cast for whatever reason, they could have easily included a line of dialogue explaining that he was there because they couldn't find anyone else who could speak French. Done. A bit implausible, but not nearly as absurd as pretending that segregation simply didn't exist.
And don't give the "it's fantasy" crap. The movie may have some fantastic elements, but it is rooted in a very real time and place. It's not Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones.
