After the season if they miss the playoffs?
What are the chances of Jerry Jones throwing the moon and stars to Jimmy Johnson to come out of retirement and fix things - or is this a bad idea - see Jon Gruden?
Or would you go with somebody 'recycled', a college coach, an OC/DC Coordinator, elsewhere.......

Probably not. When Wade Phillips was fired Jerry already had Garrett in place breathing down his neck. He, for some reason, loved Garrett and clearly had been planning for him to take over for a while at that point. I wouldn't expect him to fire a coach without some plan for another mediocre coach to be there ahead of time.

I love when teams throw their fanbases a 'bone'.
Wanted the Sixers to hire Dr. J as GM.
Been begging for the Giants to throw Phil Simms the moon and stars for years and offer him a head coaching job.
Troy Aikman to me is an awesome commentator - I love Buck and Aikman.
Would Aikman make a good HC in Dallas? Thinking he's not leaving the booth anytime soon though.
Just trying to think of an iconic Cowboy to plug in there. What about Witten leaving the booth this quickly - he was once rumored for the Tennessee Volunteer head coaching job.

Are there any head coaches who have been hired without any coaching experience of any sort before? I know that's been a trend in the NBA for a couple of years now, but I don't know of anyone in the NFL who's gotten a head coaching job that way.

I think Simms would thrive in New York listening to him as an analyst/commentator - willing to bet Giants fans would be on board and go nuts too. just like Boomer in Cincy when I was calling for Marv's head.

You're right about Lynch. The same thing is true for Elway in Denver, I believe. I dont think he held another job in the front office before being named GM. As far as I know that had not happened for head coaches in the NFL, but there's a first time for everything. The Giants would never do it, but I think the fans would approve, especially now. One of the dangers, though, is ruining the relationship with the fab base if things go wrong. Like Jason Kidd with Nets fans (if they have any). A once beloved player can become a pariah very quickly. I don't think Boomer or Simms want to give up their cushy jobs and easy paychecks for a high stress lifestyle, but some teams could certainly make a go of that approach.

Honestly, I just don't know. It seems like Cowboys fans are sick of the guy. He's become a laughing stock to any podcasts I listen to that talk about him. They call him "The Clapper" because he doesn't seem to do anything other than clap. Yet somehow, year after year he keeps his job.
How hilarious would it be for Garrett and the Cowboys to finish 8-8 and Jerry fires him only to then hire Jeff Fisher?
If Jerry does fire Garrett and bring in a new guy I think it'll be somebody on a 2nd or 3rd attempt at being a head coach.

Dez in New Orleans could have a Carmelo effect. Watch, he'll drop the game winning TD in the playoffs.
