While compiling this list I was surprised at some of the countries which ended up being unrepresented, or barely so. If I made a list like this for any other decade I am sure Italy, for example, would feature much more highly.

I am very interested in others' favourites lists, whether fives, tens, fifties or more - I'm always on the look out for recommendations, or reminders of films I have yet to see. Please also feel free to comment on my choices.

The ranking would certainly shuffle a little if I made this list again tomorrow, but I would most heartily recommend any and all of these films (as well as plenty of others which didn't make the cut).

By happenstance, I saw a lot of South Korean films. There's so much talent over there, I wish they took charge of making summer blockbusters for a while.

The only non-English language movies I score a 6-6.5/10 or higher from 2000 to date are...

1)Angel-A (2005) - 9/10 (within my Top 21 movies)

p.s. that's damn near all of my favorite non-English speaking movies straight up regardless of release year. Le Samourai (1967)(6-6.5/10) would be the only pre-2000's-to-date non-English language movie I score a 6-6.5/10 or higher.
