vegalyra or a movie with only Latin and Aramaic being spoken. … nah, who would pull a crazy stunt like that ? When this Latin and Aramaic language film was announced, Mel Gibson stated that his intent was to release it without subtitles, letting the performances speak for themselves. However, subtitles were added later.

I prefer: Movies With All People Speaking Their Native Tongue, Using Subtitles. I hate dubbing, always want the original voices. I can read and watch the movie at the same time. I read the OP as meaning movies made by English speakers but set in a time and/.or place where English is not the language being used. For instance, an American or British film that takes place in France … should the characters be speaking English or should they speak French with subtitles ? Dubbing a French movie into English does not seem to be the question. Oops, my bad, I meant not dubbing the movie.

If a film.is made with an english speaking cast, I would expect it to be in english, even if set in foreign parts. As with the numerous remakes of The Three Musketeers for example. There would be no point in making it in French with an English cast, that would be silly. If it's a foreign film, I prefet to se e it with english subtitles.

I usually prefer movies in English, but I am open to watching things in other languages.
What really bothers me is every European character in a movie having a British accent.

Why did everyone speak English in Memoirs of a Geisha Girl? Because it was an American movie for an American audience. Why does Thanos speak English? Answer: who cares? 1) You can't compare a period peace with a sci-fi/fantasy movie. The latter requires so much more suspension of disbelief. 2) A lot of people care. The O.P. didn't come up with this topic out of thin air. 1) I said I go with the flow because we've all seen movies where it works either way.
2) I said who cares because if its done well it doesn't really detract from the enjoyment of the overall film.
