What do you all think of the work of director/editor Stuart Baird? You're probably more familiar with his work as an editor than director. His editor work: The Devils (1971) (as assistant Film editor) Tommy (1975) Lisztomania (1975) The Omen (1976) Superman (1978) Valentino (1977) Outland (1981) Five Days One Summer (1982) The Honorary Consul (1983) Revolution (1985) Ladyhawke (1985) (also second unit director) Lethal Weapon (1987) Gorillas in the Mist (1988) Tango & Cash (1989) (supervising) Lethal Weapon 2 (1989) Die Hard 2 (1990) The Last Boy Scout (1991) Radio Flyer (1992) Demolition Man (1993) Maverick (1994) Executive Decision (1996) (co-edited, also director) Star Trek: Nemesis (2002) (co-edited, also director) The Legend of Zorro (2005) Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut (2006) Casino Royale (2006) Vantage Point (2008) Whiteout (2009) Edge of Darkness (2010) Salt (2010) Green Lantern (2011) Skyfall (2012) Bitter Harvest (2017) Tomb Raider (2018) His directing work:

Executive Decision is a flawed, but entertaining movie. The cast and airplane setting are what make this movie memorable. I really like Kurt Russell as the Jack Ryan type character in this movie.
U.S. Marshals is okay, but is laughable when compared to The Fugitive. A picture of this movie could be used next to the word "forgettable" in the dictionary.
Star Trek: Nemesis is mediocre in every sense of the word.

I hear part of the problem with Nemesis was Baird's unfamiliarity with Star Trek. Even cast members of that film were critical of Baird's directing efforts.

Well the writer was someone who was a Star Trek fan (John Logan) and has a decent resume (Any Given Sunday, Gladiator, Hugo, The Aviator, Skyfall, Spectre, Alien: Covenant). I liked Tom Hardy in the movie.

I liked Tom Hardy in the movie. That means very little. Just because someone is a fan of something doesn't mean they will be a good fit for the writing and just because a writer has written some good screenplays doesn't mean they are incapable of writing a bad screenplay. John Logan isn't a particularly creative writer imo.

Enjoyed U.S. Marshals. Executive Decision is 'meh' while ST: Nemesis is horrible.

I loved Executive Decision, my favorite of the "hijack the airplane" genre. Great suspense throughout, and superb storytelling with an emphasis on clever military procedural.
Still waiting for a proper blu-ray release!
