Was Freddie Mercury self hating? And what do you think of Rami Maleks performance as him?

I saw this film this past Thursday, and then again Friday night with my sister who wanted me to come with her.
I highly enjoyed the film. I understand that the writers/director took liberties with the timeline and that many critics are upset that Freddie Mercury was not shown in his true ways and light. However, I get why they wanted to show the more positive sides to Mercury, as the film is seen as a celebration of him vs. a true biopic.
Yes, Mercury was hedonistic, a hardcore druggie and 100% pervert. He would pick up guys by asking "How big is your dick?" and because of his fame and fortune he knew he could get away with that. He threw crazy sex parties with midgets walking around with trays of cocaine samples on their head. After he found out he had aids one of the band members asked him if he will calm down now and he said no, he's gonna keep going until the end. He had male and female lovers. He was an interesting and unique personality. The rest of the band were not the good, clean boys that the film depicts. They were coke heads and party animals also that fucked women left and right and cheated on their wives etc.
I never cared for Freddie Mercury as a personality and presence. I liked his music and talent, yes, but the persona was never anything i Cared for. He was a Paki boy that did everything in his power to look/be perceived as a WASP. He lied to everyone about being born and raised in Britain, when in reality he moved there at 18. He changed his name LEGALLY so that no one can know what his real name was and he even went as far as to claim his parents were dead to the media so that no one can see who his parents truly were. And I get attacked for this, but look at photos of him while young compared to the 80s... he did something to lighten his complexion. He was brown while younger then suddenly looked like a white guy with an ethnic face (yes, his features scream of Middle Eastern to me).
I could care less about his sexuality, I get why he kept that hush despite many knowing he was a freak, my issue is his self hate for who he truly was.
As for Rami Malek, I personally think he's too attractive to be Mercury. They did all they could to make him look like Mercury, and overall succeeded, but him as a total is far too attractive, something I never saw with Mercury. However, I feel Malek gave an Oscar worthy performance. He became Mercury and brought him back to life. From his expressions, to his mannerisms to his movement, he was 100% Mercury and it was incredible to see, especially the Live Aide performance, which he managed to not miss ONE step. He nailed it step for step, incredible.
Would you be ok with Malek getting nominated? He's my pick to win.
