I am a sucker for period dramas, so I was predisposed to like this. Unfortunately, the battle scenes went on too long. Several of them seemed never-ending. I blame the director and the editor. (I also have questions about how they filmed some of the scenes with horses falling. Were any horses injured, or was that just excellent effects?)
And why did they cast an American to play the lead role in a film about a key Scottish figure? They couldn't find a suitable Scot? Maybe I wouldn't criticize this if Pine had done a better job, but his emotional range seemed extremely limited. He came across very flat in almost every scene. In contrast to the fantastic Stephen Dillane as King Edward and Billy Howle as Edward II.
Somewhere between 5.5 and 6.0.
