The person who converted to believing in a god said that somebody he knew died in front of him, and now a number of times when he and his friends would talk about her, things had happened, such as light bulbs exploding or paintings falling off the wall. Not every time they mentioned her something would happen, but he just said it had happened enough times. Each instance though he clearly stated he had no explanation.
If you are a theist, how does this story sound to you?
First, what does it have to do with a god? Even if something is happening that is related to her death. How does he know it has anything to do with a god? Couldn't it be anything else from coincidence to ghosts to magic? Why did he pick god?
Second, most anybody who buys a new car will tell you they start to notice more of that car on the road. Is he not just taking somewhat mundane occurrences and assuming a connection between those events and talking about his friend's death? Surely he talks about her more frequently right? So a lot more things that happen around him, happen while he's talking about her.
Third, how do a series of things you have no explanation for equal god did it? If the answer is that you don't know, then you don't know. I find this to be the same problem have when theists start asking non believers where the universe came from. What you're doing is hoping we say the words "i don't know", because you think "i don't know" equals god could have done it. No it doesn't. It just means you don't know the answer. The next time you do that, keep that in mind.

Belief in a god or anything like that is more or less a completely personal thing. By that I mean the same reasons Larry believes in God may not be the same reasons Susie believes in a god. Something different in each of their lives could have affected them to the point of belief in a deity. Or vice versa. Sharing the reasons you believe or don't is fine so long as it comes with the tolerance of everyone else disagreeing with you.
