I never understood the role of a caddie other than to be verbally abused by the golfer having a bad day. these primadonas can't carry their own clubs? a caddie in my eyes is the biggest b*tch job in the universe you wanted a 3 iron instead of a 9? tell ya what - eat it Tiger! ![](https://s26.postimg.cc/s8tffwvq1/cheers.gif)

About 40 years ago, I had the good fortune to visit Zimbabwe in the early days of the Mugabe regime. Whilst there I got an invite to play society golf at Royal Salisbury GC (quickly renamed Royal Harare) and I visited the pro shop for some tee pegs. I was rented one after paying a $10 (Zimbabwe dollars) deposit. My caddie, Joseph, apart from reading the very quick greens for me, made sure that I never lost a ball...nor my tee peg. We had a successful round and I tipped him by allowing him to keep the tee-peg and the 4 balls I carried he carried. In local terms that was a BIG tip

A buddy who played in Kenya said the greens were sand.

No. The greens were fine as I recall. The only problem I had was over the first few holes, with distances until I realised that the metric system was used there. My caddie kept urging me to take more club which I refused to do until the penny dropped.
