Before people begin responding about what a terrible idea that would be, hear me out. It's no secret that the superhero market is pretty crowded at the moment. PG-13 blockbuster movies in general are a dime a dozen, and it's clear that the MCU is the current leader of this particular market.
With that in mind, what if the best way for the X-Men franchise to truly distinguish itself from everything else out there is by making more R-rated movies? I'm not saying that an R-rating would inherently make for a better movie, but as DP and 'Logan' demonstrated, an R-rating can sometimes be a plus for certain characters, and given that the X-Men generally comprise some of the darker stories of the Marvel universe, I don't necessarily think it'd be a poor fit to make an R-rated X-Force movie.
I know that a lot of people are apprehensive about R-rated CBMs (for some reason), but I think it might actually be a pretty good way of keeping the genre fresh. Marvel and DC can continue cranking out all the PG-13 CBMs they want, but that shouldn't mean that everyone has to do the same. Variety is the spice of life.

It wouldn't matter if the PG-13 movies' stories aren't good either. Apocalypse wouldn't have been any better if it was rated R. You might get a "Ooooh Havok's head exploded," or Mystique with actual nipples, but that's it.
I'd be cool with R rated X-men movies, but they'll never have another Logan. Like I've said before: That's a one and done type of movie.

Like I've said before: That's a one and done type of movie. Yeah, for sure. But the spectrum opened up to them with the R rating isn't limited to just the "Logan approach." Frankly I'd love to see a gory-as-fuck, tits-and-ass, rock-and-roll style, almost like "grindhouse" version of X-Force.  |

You take out all the head stabbings and decapitations and blood and loss of limbs and have him stab them in the gut. Then you have him say only 1-2 F-bombs and edit out the prom girl dropping her top, PG13 for fantasy violence. |

You're basically suggesting that they could've made all kinds of drastic changes to the film, and it would still turn out the same, but I disagree. The only scene that I felt was unnecessary was the scene with the woman randomly flashing her breasts. Logan getting angry that his car wouldn't start probably wouldn't have been as effective of a scene if he wasn't allowed to drop a bunch of f-bombs. |

So a guy hitting his truck with a shovel in a tantrum then laying in the middle of the street needed the f bombs? Would still have gotten the message without the f bombs. And showing a kid go to the edge of a roof then cutting to the people chasing him, who yells "No!", is not a drastic change. You know the kid jumped. |

Implied suicide by a kid still doesn't sound like PG-13 material. Again, the PG-13 rating really doesn't allow for much in a movie.
