The biggest riddle in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is working out what on earth the film is actually about.

I liked the first one. But I think the difference between coverage of FB and Avatar is that FB has the benefit of an established universe laid out over the course of several HP movies plus the associated literature. Everyone's familiar with it even if you hadn't even watched the movies or read the HP books. Plus the fandom is still going strong. Meanwhile Avatar felt like a self-contained story and the now infamous anti-hype backlash began fairly soon after its theatrical run. Deserved or not. So now there's more groaning than cheering over James Cameron's announcement for his planned franchise.

Rowling just should have written new books if she wanted prequels that badly. I thought the first movie was just okay. I have no desire to see the second.
Avatar's sequels are too little too late. He needed to make them when the first movie was still popular.

I liked Beasts, but it was the strongest when it was about Newt and his creatures, and the weakest when it was about the wizard world and Gindelwald. Furthermore, we already know Gindelwald's fate.

Just like that Incredibles 2 sequel was too late? How about jurassic world? Finding Dory? The new Halloween sequel in 2018. Big flop riightttt?

I liked the first one and I'll see the second, so I hope I enjoy it too. The problem with Avatar, in my opinion, is that they've waited too long to do another one. They should have made a sequel right after the first one to benefit from it's success and fan base.

ok its bad. its chaotic, hard to comprehend, with flat and uninteresting characters (especially the new ones) and it pains me to say it, but the big twist didnt seemt o ring true to the original world. even though its rowling written. how odd is thar right?
i did like the last 30 minutes and Jacob and Quinee once again managed to deliver the strongest scene in the film but overall it was a big let down. too bad.
maybe the next one?

Yeah if they keep the fantastic beasts in the forefront like bluerisk said. I’d rather watch Newt and Jacob just traveling the world, cataloging new creatures. Was that too simple?

Yeah if they keep the fantastic beasts in the forefront like bluerisk said. I’d rather watch Newt and Jacob just traveling the world, cataloging new creatures. Was that too simple? on one hand i agree, and would also love to see a separate installment of newt and Jacob vs cataloging new creatures. on the other hand, since they are so set on fighting out the good vs evil and entering more visibly into the known potterworld, i believe they should have dropped a lot of the magical creatures sequences from this one, it dragged and added nothing new. since we already knew that Newt loved all creatures and was exceptionally kind to them and good with them. so i would edit good 20 minutes of that out, and devoted more to either the newcomers or flashing out more the conflict between Queenie and Jacob which proved to be somewhat instrumental here but set out so poorly (oh, you love me even without a spell, just unsure on wanting to marry me for my own protection, well then i must leave you and join the evil). Or was she under a curse? it just didnt fit her character, if we think about her path, her personality and love and devotion to Jacob as laid out in the first movie. felt like too simplified character of a "hot but crazy woman". i am quite certain Rowling wrote a smarter and more complex female character, but something was inadvertently left out on the editing room floor. also the fact dumbledore was revealed as gay seems like a bait, and not a GENUINE intent with which Rowling wrote the character originally. I truly do wish it had been the other way around but dont feel it is.

The franchise fanbase is already eroding with a smaller opening in the US than the previous one. In China it could not even wrestle the no.1 spot away from Venom.

Awe doesn’t put in an appearance in The Crimes of Grindelwald. It’s replaced by “aw,” that nasal expression of disappointment made when expectations are squashed by the harsh vagaries of cash grab franchising.
