Jurassic Park has stood the test of time and became a classic.
Avatar suffered a backlash after the unreal hype and is now considered Dances with Cat-Smurfs. JP just suffered a sequel backlash.
Also, JP has a great soundtrack by Williams.

Jurassic Park is Spielberg's greatest achievement IMO. Acting, cast, script, direction, music - everything works just perfectly. It's a cinematic gem.
Avatar has some cool battle sequences, but the story is meh and the effects are actually not all that impressive (in my humble opinion). A massively over-hyped blockbuster.

Jurassic Park is widely considered one of the best summer blockbusters of all time and one of the most influential movies of recent times and yet I still believe it’s underrated in a way.
Jurassic Park, easily.

I'll say JP. Avatar's primary one dimensional villain hasn't aged well. Home Tree & Tree of Souls felt like 2 separate climaxes. I need a couple days for its re-watch.
Yet I will say I prefer Avatar's visual effects, scope of vision, & action adventure.

Jurassic Park (1993) it's mildly enjoyable to watch and re-watch here and there unlike Avatar. it's really that simple.
because like I always say a movies true worth is whether it's a movie you want to re-watch from time-to-time or not as the years pass.
p.s. for the record... I like The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) the most of the series as that's among My Favorite Movies where as the others in the series are not.

Honestly, I think Avatar is alright. Not $2 billion grossing worthy, but I enjoy it for its visuals and ideas it has going for it. It’s just a bit forgettable and overlong.

I agree, somewhat, with Cool J on this. Jurassic Park is more iconic, and more fun, I feel it's safe to say for most people.
Avatar is more risk taking, more original. I think it will be a while before it's appreciated. Even I don't appreciate it yet. I think its day will come later. It's actually got more originality, from what I remember.
I have to agree with most here that I find Jurassic Park much more exciting, but like I say, that may change over time.

Jurassic Park. I can watch this movie any day, any time, start to finish, and get never get bored. I saw Avatar once in theaters and honestly got pretty bored, I've attempted to watch it a couple times on 3D Blu-ray and honestly never got through it. It's just not for me.

They are both great films but I'll be the odd one out and vote for Avatar
