As this movie gets closer to release, I am getting more worried that it's going to be mediocre at best be a crap at worst. I am hoping it's great. The first reason is all the movies I go to I want greatness. Beyond that I want it as a win for the sake of DC and Comic Book/Super hero movies as a whole. I don't want either to take a hit.
We all know nothing is object to quantify "Good or Bad" movies, so the studios have to use tangent metrics to determine quality. Opening Weekend, Total Gross home and abroad, critical opinion, audience's opinion sampled, etc etc. I'm hoping it hits all the marks running. I don't know if it was getting burned too many times previously to trust what I see in the trailer, but I'll be there opening weekend worried or not.

I've seen all the other DCEU movies in theaters and enjoyed all but one. Chances are, acclaim or not, I'll do the same. Like that new member uncouthly but correctly said, enjoying movies regardless of their reception doesn't make you retarded.

I'm a Prime member but I'm also in Canada. Not sure if this will take effect here...

Earlier than I expected.
Which is usually encouraging news.

I'm really disappointed they gave Amber Heard so much presence in the film. Her career is one big 'look at me, i'm attractive!' ...not a particularly skilled actress. No disrespect to any Zack Snyder fans, but I can guarantee you she did not get the role through an audition process, and James Wan would have most certainly picked someone else.
Regardless, I have faith it'll be a well-assembled film, and the final trailer has a very Avatar feel to it, in the most positive sense.

I’ve kind of wondered if Zack Snyder has a soft spot for Amber Heard due to their mutual love of Ayn Rand.

Again, don't want to piss anyone off here, but was Gal Gadot really the single greatest actress on Earth to play Wonder Woman? Do you think she went to 8, 10, 12 auditions and beat out Julliard's finest? Now, she's worked out great, can't even imagine anyone else in the role.... but at the time it was definitely odd how it worked out. Momoa as Aquaman, even Affleck as Batman... It feels more like Snyder just picks someone out he's subjectively fond of and gives them the role.

Snyder puts a lot of stock on visual appeal. Cavill looked like he could be a Superman. Momoa looked like he'd be a great Aquaman. Even Affleck looks pretty good as Bruce Wayne. It's the same thing as Gadot. She has the height for Diana, she handles action scenes better than majority of actresses, she has a look that's both exotic and fierce. In short, she fits right in with the other cast. The only one that doesn't really make sense for me was Amy Adams as Lois.

Go out and get top line talent, even if they're not yet box office draws. Harrison Ford started somewhere unknown, as did Michael Fassbender, as did Christopher Reeve. These people are out there, but you have to hunt for them. Worry about physical appeal after you have the character actor down. It's like when people say "Only a caucasian actor can be Hal Jordan!" If a Cambodian dude showed up at your casting call and absolutely blew away every other actor in that room, do you go with the less talented guy? Do you knowingly make an inferior movie? There's no specific reason Hal has to be white. Jackie Chan as the king of Wakanda would be an odd choice. Wonder Woman being black when the only black people in Greece at that time would have been slaves... again doesn't really click on a narrative sense. But otherwise, get the best possible actor you can, worry about the skin-deep stuff later. They had people lined up to be Wolverine, you can google it. Some hair band guitarist from the 80's i think. But Hugh Jackman blew them away and they went with him. Because he was just better.

But Hugh Jackman blew them away and they went with him. Because he was just better. I disagree. While acting skill is the most important aspect supposedly, it's not the only deciding factor. You have to take into account the actor's charisma, potential marketability and yes, whether they physically match the character. Especially in the realm of cbms where we adapting already existing characters, it would make the character too unbelievable if you get someone that completely does not resemble them. I mean, if you held casting auditions for the role of Thor and the guy with the best acting chops who came was a 5 foot tall chubby Thai, would you have cast him? There's also the fact that even if an actor isn't as skilled in acting, sometimes their acting skill just matches a role. And btw, Christopher Reeve was not top line talent, at least not when he was first cast. Neither was Harrison Ford. Hugh Jackman also didn't originally win the part for Wolverine. He only got it when the first choice had scheduling conflicts.

We're not making Hamlet here. It's not like it takes a huge amount of acting ability to deliver the lines in a comic book action movie. This is just pulp after all despite what some people want to believe. Looks and ability to do action are most important. Just ask Arnold or Bruce Lee or Chuck Norris or Jean Claude Van Damme, or Jackie Chan or even Clint Eastwood.
