They whitewashed Mandarin too 😠I d say Lucy Liu without shaving her head That wasn't The Mandarin, the REAL Mandarin still exists in the MCU we just haven't seen him yet. What was seen in Iron Man 3 was a decoy inspired by the myth of the actual Mandarin created by AIM to play war games. The decision to cast Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One was based solely on politics, the character was changed into more of a title so anybody could take the mantle over time regardless of race or age. Had they made the character exactly how it was portrayed in the comic they would've raised lots of eyebrows in the foreign market and turn them off from the product. The co-screenwriter C. Robert Cargill explained this on Double Toasted a couple years back.

Had they kept the character the same way as depicted in the comic they would've risked having the audience in the foreign market be turned off from their product as is a very dated stereotypical depiction. They changed "The Ancient One" into a title as opposed to an absolute character, so anyone of any race or age could take the mantle over history.

You talking about the Trevor twist or the fact that Ben Kingsly played an Asian? Mainly Kinglsey playing him. But Kingsley wasn't actually playing him, the Mandarin in the movie was a character created by AIM that was loosely inspired by the mythical leader of the Ten Rings organization from the earlier Iron Mans. The REAL Mandarin is said to still be out there, and not happy with how AIM used his image for political gain and how Trevor portrayed him as in front of national and international television - See "All Hail the King".

Well lets hope the real mandarin does appear on screen played by an East Asian in the near future.
