I liked it but the trailers made the movie seem like one unified narrative with a central mystery. Only in the loosest of terms is that true. Really, it's an excuse for the Coens to relive classic genres they don't do much anymore like westerns, musicals, and costume dramas.

I actually really enjoyed it. One of my favorite Coen films to be honest. I love the period though, the last stand of the Hollywood studio system. Time was running out! I also enjoyed the Communism infiltration aspect. The "twist" towards the end surprised the heck out of me. Never would have suspected the one actor of being a Communist.

Like Burn After Reading, it's lesser Coens that borders on self-prarody at times, but it's still worth a watch if you like them.

It was okay. I certainly don't hate it. Why in the world would I hate it? That's just crazy.
It was only just okay though. I thought it ended prematurely and was lacking in climax. When the credits started rolling, I thought that was it? Where's the rest of the movie?
That was pretty much my only thought after watching it. Where's the rest? What little was there was still fine.

I tried watching it once, but it just seemed to plod along not really getting much of anywhere, some nice visuals of 1950's Hollywood, and then fell asleep. Maybe I was just tired, but don't remember feeling I was going to miss much by not finishing it. Hopefully I will have another opportunity to see it in a more alert frame of mind. If that happens again, I guess it wasn't due to fatigue.
