Mel Gibson is a better director than Christopher Nolan.

The best Star Wars films generally aren't directed by Lucas (though that's probably not that controversial at this point)

Tim Burton is a good-but-not-great director. I think he'd be a better writer/producer. Hes an idea man, but get a more complete director to flesh out his ideas.

Christopher Nolan has only made one great film. The Dark Knight. Everything else is OK to bad.

Christopher Nolan has only made one great film. The Dark Knight. Everything else is OK to bad. The reason I started this tread was because I watched "Hacksaw Ridge" the other day right after "Dunkirk" and it's not even comparable how much more impactful Hacksaw Ridge is. Then I thought about how much praise Nolan gets, but TBH, Gibson is better, and he's shunned by Hollywood. Passion, Apocalypto, Braveheart, Hacksaw Ridge. Nolan couldn't convey those films in the same way. Not even close.

Maybe everyone already knows this, but...
Quentin Tarantino has an empty space in his chest where other people have a heart. It makes his movies third rate.
Jackie Brown is the only one I like and that is probably because of the Elmore Leonard source.

Aside from Psycho and maybe Saboteur, Hitchcock movies are only average.

NOT controversial. Or, as someone once said: "OVER THE LINE!"

Sometimes, people read way more into Paul Verhoven films, than is really there.

Sometimes, people read way more into Paul Verhoven films, than is really there. That's seems to be the case with "Showgirls". Some have tried to argue it's a misunderstood satire, I'm pretty it was just an excuse to show a naked Jessie from "Saved by the Bell" that ended up being an unintentional comedy.

If you have seen the DVD release, there is a commentary track from a comedian named David Schmader, who used to (and still rarely does) run a show where he would do a MST3k-type commentary track to a screening of Showgirls. He seems to split the difference: he thinks it was intended to be satire, but it devolved very quickly into an excuse to show a naked Jessie from "Saved by the Bell," that sex scene/seizure with Kyle MacLaughlin's hair, and the rape scene that made the rape scene from "A Clockwork Orange" look sane by comparison.

Aside from Psycho and maybe Saboteur, Hitchcock movies are only average. I don't think his films age all that well. They appear kind of stuffy and artificial in character.
Same with David Lean.
They had all the money and resources but films with a fraction of the budget have more old-fashioned dramatic punch.
Yesterday's Enemy or Camp on Blood Island are better Japanese war movie dramas than Bridge on the River Kwai once you look beyond the stars and cinematography.

All of M. Night Shyamalan's films after The Sixth Sense are crap.
Well, of the ones that I've seen. I gave up after The Village.
