His stirring score for Maddalena (1971) is sublime.
added base & drums remix version by Morricone.
Love the musical pocket watch theme, especially in the final duel of For A Few Dollars More.
Also like the ones he did for Spasmo (1974) & White Dog (1982). The latter score really does give the film an emotional punch.

As on Music General, if you write "Ennio Morricone", I think "The Thing":

I own a 3 disc collection of his scores. I love them all equally!

Mixed feelings here. He's maybe the greatest in his field.
But his talent has been wasted on the worst crap movies ever. His inspirational sounds are totally mismatched in most movies. Although matched well in Thing and Once Upon a time in America.
I'll qualify that by saying his "early career", when he was becoming someone who could call his own shots, that his talent was wasted and mismatched.
I can only believe that he had little choice in allowing his inspirational music to be used in the worthless spaghetti Westerns. He had to be stunned that people actually fell for Leone's garbage. Sure, he will never admit that, because every crack head in the world would try to get even with him if he did.

Well if he did what John Williams did, he would have very few movies in his resume and most would be forgotten once the special effects novelty wears off. The fact that he did a ton of non Hollywood films is to the benefit of his legacy with audiences.
In the case of his Leone westerns, the music for OUATITW was composed before they started filming which suggests he had a lot of creative input--more so than the average composer who does the score after the film is shot.
