His stats are absolutely Hall worthy. MVP, ROY, 6 AS, 4 SS, 462 HR, 1407 Rbis, first 40-40 guy, stats comparable to Willie Stargell.
Steroid supporters say McGwire, Bonds and Clemens belong in. If they do, Canseco does. Why does he not get the same love those guys do? Because he blew the whistle?

There seems to be a fine line for the average fans forgiving players who admit that they used - Pettitte, Giambi for example. No one ever brings their use up anymore. I think Canseco is the scapegoat for the entire era. He did act like a tool, but his book is essentially the Bible for who did what. I don’t think he should get in based on his using, but if the others get in then there’s no reason to keep him out.

He got 6 votes in 2007 (1.1%). Behind Saberhagen, P. O'Neill, Belle

As for Stargell, I don’t know where he stood when he retired but by today’s standards I would not put him in the HOF. As a side note, why do all the holier than thou anted crusaders hold Canseco on some sort of pedestal? He didn’t name names for any other reasons than greed and revenge. Also, not a single name on Canseco’s book was new allegation or revelation. On the old IMDb sports board, I posted a long post that got little traction that listed every single name from Juiced and provided sources that about those names the predated the book.

Stargell isn’t judged by today’s standards. Based on the era he played in he 100% deserved to be elected to the Hall of Fame. As for Canseco, his stats are good enough to be elected if you disregard the rest. I don’t think anyone questions his motivation for writing that book, and being a douche isn’t enough on its own to keep someone out of the HOF. But he cheated so he shouldn’t and won’t get in.

I named three guys with Hall of Fame stats, just like Canseco has. I named those guys because they juiced like Canseco. And because you wouldn't put Stargell in doesnt' mean he's not a HOFer. He is. And that's why you don't get to vote. I personally don't hold Canseco on any pedestal, I think he's a douche. I'm making a point that you steroid lovers think some guys should be in and some should not and statistically, Canseco should be in if those other cheaters get in.
