Originally I started this thread a month early... Noomi Rapace - born 28 December 1979 - is one of my Top 10 favourites actresses. She-of-the-excellent cheekbones. Here's to the original (and STILL the best!) Girl with the Dragon Tattoo/Lisbeth Salander! For those unfamiliar with this talented actress, she's one of the most talented actresses of today...but she's also very underrated, I think. Noomi throws herself into every movie she's appeared in. I've seen the word 'brave' used to describe some of the great actresses of our time. They're the ones who will 100% fully commit to a role, and I believe Noomi is absolutely one of those fiercely committed actresses. She doesn't let vanity prevent her from taking on roles which require her character to look very unglamorous. In several movies I've seen with her, she looks as though she's put herself through the wringer, so much so that I've felt exhausted on her behalf simply from watching the extremes she's gone to and the toll it must have taken on her body. She's not just committed physically to her roles, but emotionally as well. As exhausting as it can be to see the crazy stuff she puts her body through, there have been numerous instances where she's had deeply emotional scenes and her portrayal of those emotions have been so raw that's it's really gotten to me. Whenever Noomi's playing pain or hurt, I can't help but feel for her character. At the other end of the spectrum - when she's playing a character who is happy (not that she gets too very often, it seems), I feel Noomi's warmth and joy coming through. She has a great smile. One of the many things I appreciated about her portrayal of Lisbeth Salander from the Millennium trilogy was her smile, as Lisbeth was described in the books as having a 'lopsided' smile/grin, and Noomi captured that perfectly. Here are the films I've seen her in so far (and I look forward to watching the ones I haven't yet seen)... The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - Extended Version (2009). The Girl Who Played with Fire - Extended Version (2009). The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest - Extended Version (2009). Beyond (2010). The Monitor (2011). Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011). Prometheus (2012). Passion (2012). Dead Man Down (2013). The Drop (2014). Child 44 (2015). Rupture (2016). Unlocked (2017). What Happened to Monday (2017). Stockholm (2018). Angel of Mine (2019). If you haven't seen many (or any) of these^ films starring Noomi Rapace, I'd recommend you check at least some of them out - none in more urgent need to viewing than the Millennium trilogy based on Stieg Larsson's three books that he wrote before passing away. If you're a fan, please share any of your favourite Noomi Rapace roles or pictures/GIFs/videos and join me in wishing her a Happy Birthday.

Watching her right now in Bright (2017) where she looks freaky and is acting all evil as an elf with serious issues.

Also, her complete trilogy of the Stieg Larsson novels should not be missed. The first one only starts the story, the other two are vital continuations of it. Hollywood only gave us the first one and now some other sequel not written by Larsson. She and the late great Michael Nyqvist are perfect and I cannot recommend them enough.

As she is Swedish I know I ought to know very much about her, but I sadly don't. When she was very young and was still Noomi Noren in Tre Kronor TV-series 1997 Sanning eller konsekvens ( Truth or Dare) 1997 Aww, wee Noomi! As soon as I first became aware of her, I started seeking out other stuff she'd been in and saw that she was in a TV series - which, of course, I immediately wanted to check out. Somehow I doubt I'll ever see it, though. Thanks for those pictures of her, teleadm. It's always interesting see younger versions of actors/actresses we know to see how much (or how little) they've changed. Although she's definitely younger, she's still immediately recogniseable. If there are any movies you've seen with her which I didn't list in my first post (I forgot to include Child 44, which I've also seen, and added it to my list of Noomi movies I've watched) that you can recommend, please do. That goes for any other Noomi fans here - if there are some good Noomi movies that you've seen which I have yet to see, please don't hesitate in recommending them. Watching her right now in Bright (2017) where she looks freaky and is acting all evil as an elf with serious issues. I very much wish to see that^ movie and evil elf Noomi...but it still hasn't been released here on DVD/Blu-ray as yet. While I'm sure she plays evil well, I wish she'd been a good guy and could've been in any sequels that get made. I think she's got a great 'look' in that movie. A different sort of elf to what one immediately thinks of. I absolutely agree. The original trilogy of books - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest - were written by Stieg Larsson, there were movie versions of each released in 2009 starring Noomi Rapace and the late Michael Nyqvist, then n 2010 there was the Millennium TV mini-series, which was a compilation of the three Swedish films with extended scenes/more stuff added back in. Then we got DVD/Blu-ray releases of the 'Extended Versions' of the movies with all those extra scenes (quite a significant amount, I might add) - these are the versions I always watch now. I've never gone back to the theatrical versions of the movies. The Extended Versions just have so much more stuff in them and they're worth checking out to soak up every last bit of Noomi-as-Lisbeth you can get. I rewatch these at least once a year. They certainly require a good deal of time to get through, but they're worth it. I've also re-read the book trilogy a few times too. Please feel free to share any images, GIFs, videos or thoughts on Noomi Rapace from the various movies (or shows) she's appeared in here, including interviews with her. Speaking of interviews, I'll always remember this interview she did with Craig Ferguson from quite some time ago and Noomi talking about 'naughty salt'. And on The Graham Norton Show, she proved how she doesn't get hung up on vanity and is able to just continue on...even when she's lost part of her facial features.

Chalice_Of_EvilWell, Noomi only appeared in 12 out of 123 episodes of Tre Kronor, so I'm not sure how much it's worth searching out, it was sort of a weekly soap about differnt families in a fictional suburb, and their intercations. I never followed it myself, but many did in Sweden. Normally, in Sweden, young actors and actresses, go through long processes of try-outs, and then wins some roles, when they get older, they try out for real drama classes, like Royal Academy (still Sweden), many are never heard of since their kid acting days, but some get the acting bug, but many stil don't succeeds, but some do. I must admit I had never heard of Noomi until the Stieg Larsson trilogy. In Sweden we have something called the "Jante Law", meaning "don't think you are anything until you're a success in your own back yard", and that is actually what is called "The Royal Swedish jealousy" when someone is succesfull abroad "My children could have done that better", and Ingrid Bergman was very much a victim of that when she became famous. I don't follow it myself, I think it's ridiculous, but sadly it's part of the Swedish soul, we want them to succeed abroad, but when they actually do, we hate them.

I'm enthused to undertake this stimulating mini-trip into Noomi Rapace's screen persona and would like to thank you for this excellent thread, though you must count me among the unfamiliar.
I do, however, adore her work opposite Rachel McAdams in Brian De Palma's crime drama 'Passion' (2012) and I'm a fan of 'Prometheus' (2012), so 2012 is a career year for me. I'd recommend 'Rupture' (2016) as something that's a bit different.
I enjoyed watching Rooney Mara headline director David Fincher's 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' (2011), as Lisbeth Salander, and was disappointed they didn't adapt the other books together. Oh well.
Thanks for the recommendations, think I'll look out for 'The Drop' (2014). Also, I think I might enjoy the crime flick 'Dead Man Down' (2013), scanning over the cast and synopsis.

I don`t think she belongs on this board. This thread should be on Film General Or "Actors and Actresses", but I've given up on people ever posting things to the right boards on this site.
Anyway, I am a fan of Noomi so it's nice to see this thread someplace.

Awesome choices of pics/Gifs Chalice. A bit of The Monitor-related trivia, in 2005 Michael Nyqvist made an excellent Thriller with the same director (Next Door-out on DVD) Daisy Diamond (2007) Beyond (2010) Passion (2012) And finishing things off with a Tattoo Gif

I don't think anyone has mentioned "Unlocked" (2017) yet. It is a rather routine spy plot but Noomi shines in it. If a competently made, well-acted countdown to doomsday spy story is your cuppa, you could do worse. Michael Douglas and Orlando Bloom co-star.

I don't follow it myself, I think it's ridiculous, but sadly it's part of the Swedish soul, we want them to succeed abroad, but when they actually do, we hate them. Yeah, I didn't really think there was much chance of me getting to ever see the show. I just typically go seeking out other things actors/actresses have appeared in if I grown fond of a particular actor or actress and wish to see them in more stuff. Your description of 'The Royal Swedish jealousy' sounds to me like 'tall poppy syndrome'. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tall_poppy_syndromeIs it like that^ or somewhat different? I agree with you on the subject of it, though. I would think Sweden should be proud of Noomi. Thanks for the information about Sweden and Noomi Rapace. Awesome choices of pics/Gifs Chalice. A bit of The Monitor-related trivia, in 2005 Michael Nyqvist made an excellent Thriller with the same director (Next Door-out on DVD) Daisy Diamond (2007) Beyond (2010) Interesting. Thanks for bringing those^ two movies to my attention. I know you said the first one you mentioned was 'excellent', but what was Beyond like? I imagine you probably wouldn't have mentioned it if it wasn't at least halfway decent. I liked Passion too (and I really need to rewatch it one of these days) and I didn't mind Prometheus (though I wish they'd kept in scenes with Noomi's character, Elizabeth Shaw, which were cut from the movie. I watched these deleted scenes on the Blu-ray I own and more Noomi in that movie wouldn't have been a bad thing). I have heard of Rupture and I think I may have seen a trailer for it. Hopefully I'll get to check it out at some point. I haven't seen Dead Man Down, so if you do indeed check it out, please let me know what you thought of it. I really liked Noomi Rapace and Tom Hardy (and the dog!) in The Drop. Thanks for mentioning this^. I'll check it out if I can.

I like her as she's more attractive than most and is basically a good actress (I like her accent to which is a bonus ). but sadly, at this point in time there is not a single movie of hers that I have seen that I still like. but I am sure, unless something changes in the future, which I doubt, that she will always be remembered for... The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009). the OP mentioned her cheekbones etc... you can basically tell she's got a different/more unique look than most in this regard with her facial structure which the cheekbones seem to be the most obvious part of it. Yep
