So how do you like the brother sister duo The Carpenters ?
Personally i am not a huge fan or anything but i do think they have some good songs, and Karen Carpenter in my opinion is the third best vocalist of all time after Judith Durham and Linda Ronstadt.

Not really. I don't hate them, but to me their songs were just vanilla Pop.

. I gotta say a yay. Lot of smashing songs, crisp and lush production values.....and of course that sublime voice. Loved their cover of Delaney/Bonnie/Leon Russell's §uperstar/Groupie as well as Leon's Ma$querade (above) and who can forget Tony Peluso's guitar solo outro-ing the brilliant Goodbye To Love. In fact the more I think about this....a bigger yay.

Their Christmas Portrait album is the first Christmas album that I remember hearing when I was a kid and so the Christmas occasion is not complete until I have heard every song.
God bless you and Richard always!!!
Holly
P.S. Before I learned that they are siblings, I thought that they were married.

There's a joke in a John Carpenter movie where they are feeding their music through a room in a mental institition and the patient Sam Neill says: "Oh no! Not the Carpenters!"

Nope, they're pretty much aural poison to me, one of the standards by which all things about music I do not like are judged.

They were a great pop group at a time when radio "pop" was much more eclectic--everything from easy listening to soft rock to soul to country to bubble gum to hard rock. People of all ages listened indiscriminately to popular songs and were exposed to a greater variety of music. Karen Carpenter had the kind of singing voice that was reminiscent of the greatest female singers of earlier eras, and she knew how to express deep emotion without that annoying moaning that modern-day singers employ in cheap attempts to sound soulful. Every once in a while, I have to listen to the Carpenters to get a dose of wonderful singing. (I do have to say, however, that one particular line in the holiday staple "Merry Christmas, Darling"--"Logs on the fire/Fill me with desire" always strikes me as funny).

One of the true voice of an angel vocalists.
Simples, whatever the music persuasion genre preferences of all music lovers on site. Music lost a serious angle when she passed on.

Karen didn't always have the best material, but she was one hell of a singer. Very emotionally expressive voice.
