"Rock and roll!"Dr. Ross Jennings (Jeff Daniels) and his family has just moved away from the chaotic life in the big city in favor of the more relaxing environment in Canaima. But with the recent news that several of the inhabitants in town have a way of ending up at the morgue, leads Dr. Jennings to suspect that they might not be just another victim of unlucky circumstances, instead he feels it might be the work of an eight legged killer. One of my favorite childhood horror films, and one that used to scare me pretty good, as I had a room down in a basement that I also "shared" with a lot of big house spiders, (not dangerous for a human) but I gotta be honest, I did not enjoy their company all that much. I could handle a zombie or an elephant, as these creatures you would have little trouble knowing were around, but with a spider, now these guys could be anywhere, and sure had that frustrating talent of showing up at the wrong time, and cause a bit of chaos. Anyway, the film Arachnophobia is a fine example of a big budget horror/adventure that features a good portion of comedy, and I always have blast seeing John Goodman as the exterminator Delbert McClintock, only wished his part would have been a little bigger, cause he was on a roll. Jeff Daniels once again handles himself great as the leading man who must try to overcome his spider phobia along with proving to his fellow man that there is some weird shit going around, killing everybody. And my only "complaint" is that I felt Julian Sands were a bit wasted later on, as his character should have been allowed more screen time. Along with one of the Child's Play sequels, this film with it's beautiful artwork/poster is to be seen in Jerry Seinfeld's exclusive VHS collection. The special effects is pretty solid, well of course if you ignore the huge goofy looking one, later one that is, and I really liked the soundtrack done by Trevor Jones, as it captures that adventurous but spooky feel from the beginning of the film.

It was only a natural given how so many people have an aversion to spiders. Top notch Hollywood thriller, with great chills and chuckles, and a cast full of familiar faces. Goodman does indeed steal the show. "I believe he's still on the bottom of my shoe..."

I really miss this kind of feel-good horror/thrillers and I would have loved seeing a sequel done during the 90s, but I guess the film did not make enough money, or that the actors/director did not want back in for another ride.

"Would anyone object if I tore this floor out?"
"Yeah, that's right. I'm bad!"

Entertaining even if I can't take this movie too serious. I think Kingdom of the Spiders is a dozen times better but that's just personal preference.

I remember when it came on tv and I learnt a new word. I think I used it at school the next day and everyone else had watched it.
On the movie itself, I only remember the beginning and the ending. Oh and Hey, that theme you posted was decent, added to my favs.

"Would anyone object if I tore this floor out?""Yeah, that's right. I'm bad!" Was just about to make sure John Goodman's exterminator character made an appearance here! I miss these types of horror flicks too. Fun, but not over the top with the mean spirit and brutality. The main characters are easy to root for, you get a few laughs, and some genuinely scary moments. I'm not afraid of spiders (where I live, they're everywhere and help kill off other pests), but the spiders in this movie are threatening and do their job well. That guy who got embalmed at the top of the barn still freaks me out...as does the climax.

I think Kingdom of the Spiders is a dozen times better but that's just personal preference. I haven't seen that one, but I have heard its a good 70s "creature/feature" ride and one that certainly looks like my kind of fun. I remember when it came on tv and I learnt a new word. I think I used it at school the next day and everyone else had watched it. On the movie itself, I only remember the beginning and the ending. Oh and Hey, that theme you posted was decent, added to my favs. I learnt english faster by watching horror films and Arnold Schwarzenegger titles than in my school. Of course not all english words from those films was a success to use in front of my parents or teachers, but I have always prefered the english subtitles instead of my own language. I quite like the cheesy end theme called Don't Bug Me by Jimmy Buffet, which somehow have always made me think of The Police and Every Breath You Take. I also do enjoy the re-done main theme 0:33/1:54 were we see the Jennings family arive in Canaima, that is a beatiful little theme, which should be made longer.

It is almost a family horror movie with adventure, comedy and action, and I gotta be honest, in some of the scenes with the small spider babies, I almost felt sorry for them, which is rather impressive acting from a spider. Always a riot to watch Jeff Daniels run amok down in his wine cellar/basement, screaming out "WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?" like the big bad spider are just gonna answer him back. I do like Julian Sands little speech about how we really should appreciate the spiders, as without them, we would probably found ourselves being overrun by insects.

I have seen it yesterday for the first time. Fun flick with good cast. It's a shame that Jeff Daniels have made only two horror movies in his career (this one and "Chasing Sleep") - his acting was good and the movies were great too. Maybe he will return to the genre someday.
