Teddy wasn't trying to help Leonard; he only wanted the money in the trunk of the Jag. In an early scene when Leonard tries to close the driver's side window and finds it broken, Teddy immediately says, "I can get that fixed for you." We don't learn until later why Teddy wanted control of the car.
Throughout, Leonard tells the truth but only as he understands it - which is almost not-at-all.

True but he was right about Leonard already attaining his revenge- or at least we assume. Yeah Teddy was self serving but at least tried to snap Leonard out of his cycle as wwll.

Everything Teddy tells Leonard at the very end of the movie is the real truth.

I trusted no one. I always thought that was the point. Not to trust anyone. And as we learn at the end, not even the tattoos and clues themselves. Fucking awesome movie!
