The 102-year old movie icon has filed a "defamation of character" suit against FX for its depiction of her in FEUD: BETTE AND JOAN.
The suit alleges that the film depicted her as a vicious gossip who openly mouthed invectives against her sister, actress Joan Fontaine. FX refuses to budge from its position.
I never saw the movie, nor do I care to do so. I only hope that the stress of this ordeal doesn't affect Miss deHavilland's heath.
According to Arcamax News, she lives quietly in a luxury apartment in the 16th Arrodisment of Paris. While an aide and a housekeeper do come, she mostly lives alone, and never goes any farther than the roof of her building, where there is a view of the Eiffel Tower. Her only living relative--her daughter Gisele--lives with her husband in Malibu. I have a feeling that the two are not especially close.
I hope her suit is successful.

Is this a NEW lawsuit?
I thought she filed a lawsuit a year ago...
I remember reading this back in MARCH:
I found that to be a very disappointing verdict, for all historical figures, living and dead...
There are many historical figures that were terrific people...
To know that any movie, can trash their good image for the sake of entertainment, and not be held accountable, is just sickening...
Entertainment should never be more important than historical truth...
While, I know some people will believe these portrayals to be 100% real, unfortunately... I really do hope that most people will remember that this kind of media is just for entertainment purposes, and will take it all with a large amount of salt.
And... Hopefully, most movie makers will still try to keep history as accurate as possible...

Ron Howard made Max Baer look like a very nasty person How? In the film, Baer is the stereotypical Jerk Jock and an exceptionally violent opponent when boxing. IRL, Max Baer was considered a kind hearted gentleman outside the ring. It’s true that he did kill someone in the ring though.

That's amazing she still has such independence at 102!
And she had a court case back in the 40s too.

Ah, so you're referring to Max Baer, Sr. the prizefighter, and not his son who played Jethro on THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES. Still, I have to wonder if Max, Jr. was angry at the depiction of his father. And if he ever tried to do anything about it.
No, I never saw CINDERELLA MAN.
As for Olivia deHavilland, all I know is what I read in Arcamax News. I really don't know if it's the original lawsuit or if she filed a new one.

The Baer family was upset, and I believe they expressed being unhappy with Max Sr.'s portrayal, but I don't think they took legal action.

I did see that miniseries that Olivia started the lawsuit over. She was portrayed in the series as a true-blue friend to Bette Davis, and was generally depicted as a great lady, elegant and genteel. But, there was the one scene that was very atypical of the rest of the characterization, and that was a scene where the Olivia character called Joan Fontaine a very blunt 5-letter word. It kind of surprised because nothing else was like that about her in the show. Most of the other characters swore up a blue streak but not her. Olivia though wasn't too happy though about seeing that the character supposedly said a few words about the Davis/Crawford feud.

It would seem a little odd if the Supreme Court had taken up this particular case. Anybody happen to know the (approximate) date of that photo of Olivia de Havilland in 'The Hollywood Reporter' article above, from what looks like an appearance at The Academy Awards? SAVE FERRIS

SAVE FERRISAnd so it was: at the 75th Awards in 2003. You can always do a search on any image; right clicking on it brings up a menu including, "Search Google for image."

I believe that the Supreme Court ruled against Olivia. The article posted above states: The case then was brought to higher authorities, but neither the California Supreme Court nor the U.S. Supreme Court thought intervention was warranted.
