This movie stinks, yet for some reason I’m still watching. Mostly for the sheer incongruity of Kurt Russell playing Old Saint Nick, continuing the Tim Allen tradition of purposely miscast, wisecracking Santa Clauses. The acting’s dreadful all-around.
I may stop watching it any minute.
Has anyone seen this?

OK, I’m done with it. Mixed-messages and worse acting than a Hallmark movie. That’s almost an accomplishment.

Thanks Salzmank. I was thinking about watching this but I guess I don't have to now.

Thanks Salzmank. I was thinking about watching this but I guess I don’t have to now. It looked like a fun kids’ movie, but it just… I don’t know, it’s worse than the Tim Allen Santa Clause sequels (which it’s very close to, in mood). Russell is never given a funny line to say as Santa, and he comes off as a jerk: he puts the two kids “on the naughty list, permanently!” for accidentally wrecking his sleigh, then goes ahead and steals a car. Just lousy messages for kids. And it’s not fun, either.

It sounds stupid...but I just know I'll wind up watching it anyway.

It looks good and bad at the same time. On one side, you have Kurt Russell, but on the other it’s a sappy-looking holiday special...on Netflix.

Summons is in the mail as we speak. If I may ask, what did you like about it?

Summons is in the mail as we speak. If I may ask, what did you like about it? I enjoyed the genial spirit of the movie, it didn't take itself seriously. I have to disagree with you across the board, I thought Kurt looked like he was really having fun in the role, the kids did a fine enough job, the jailhouse sequence was fun (I especially enjoyed the cameo by Steven Van Zandt), the whole thing just worked for me. And I'm not normally one who likes "conventional" Christmas movies at all.
