Tell me or show me just ONE scene from Black Panther that qualifies it as a worthy Oscar Best picture calibre movie.
Every movie thats been nominated for best pic in the last 10 years has had at least 1 scene minimum where high quality direction, acting, cinematography and writing is all encapsulated into 1 scene (which is often used as the promo scene when they are announcing nominees at the actual award ceremony).

So... I never thought that BP deserves an Oscar nom. That said, I think quite a number of movies nominated for Oscar best picture awards are crappy movies anyway and that BP is better than a number of them.

The CGI fight between Black Panther and Killmonger is probably better than anything in most Oscar winning movies.

I don't think it is deserving of a best picture nod, not that I really care. But, I would say the scenes where T'Challa and Killmonger drink the heart shaped herb and visit their respective fathers are exceptional.

Probably not Best Picture worthy (I say probably because Oscars are overrated as indicators of quality), but those scenes are the first ones that came to mind when I thought about 'Oscar moments' from this film.

I can't. It's a matter of principle. There's no token nomination, every nominee is a nominee because it could win. Nothing should be nominated unless if can go the whole 9 so to me, arguing that Black Panther deserves to be nominated is tantamount to arguing that it deserves to win, and I did like Black Panther but not to the point of Best Picture material.

Opening exposition, Ancestral Plane scenes, everything with Sterling K. Brown, when Killmonger tells everyone what's up... As good or better than the Oscar-bait movies and their pretentious overwrought scenes of way too much emotion.

This is probably one of, if not THE best scene in the movie.
The acting, the music, the dialogue. The script is great, but Killmonger gets the best lines, and thanks to Michael B. Jordan's performance that just makes him stand out.
