Disco is often dismissed as a genre, but it shouldn't be.
Yes, there is some saccharine sweet nonsense, but dig a little deeper, and there are rich rewards.
After all, it is the foundation/ building block for both hip hop and modern dance music.
So if you like dance music, put on your dancing shoes, or sit this one out...
I'll kick off with some proto-disco tunes.

Some funk musicians say they were angered by disco's simplified beats because suddenly they were expected to modify their complex rhythms. I think there's some great disco too though, often produced by soul and funk musicians, as well as those from the pure rock fold.

I think what really bothered them was that disco quickly went to DJ's playing records, and the live band experience got sidelined. I agree with you, some of the best disco came from funk musicians. I like funk with heavy production. Some of the disco productions lost the heaviness but I like the ones with a bit of bottom.

I prefer disco percussion heavy, rather than strings. It's earthier, and more rooted, rather than floaty, and airy. Having said that, combine the two and you get the best of both worlds. Azoto - San Salvador (Instrumental)
