It was before the internet allowed you with one click to view song lyrics previously only guessed at. I warbled some of these lyrics mistakenly for many a year.
The actual lines are A. Mine were B
A - He had the kind of body that would shame Adonis B - He had the kind of body that would shame a dentist
A - And a face that would make any man proud B - And a face that would make any man cry
A - He looks like a still, that man is dressed to kill B - He looks like a stiff, that man is just a kid
I mean, I wasn't far out. She had a way of pronouncing words. That's my excuse. Anyway it's a cracking number courtesy of The Chic Organization.

Oh yeah, it's foot-stompin' time alright. The lovely, ultimately tragic, Phyllis Hyman with a belter from 1979. At the controls, Mtume the full band, delivering the familiar old-skool Mtume sound way before Juicy Fruit reared its not-so-pretty head, backed up with additional vocal artillery from Gwen Guthrie. Yeah, let's hit it :

All aboard the retro-bus back to the Sound of 1981 Minneapolis. No surprise that our young heroine spent the late 70s hanging out with a certain purple prince... "Change your name to Suzie Stone," he suggested before her first album. Nope. Sue Ann Carwell stood her ground and stayed simply Sue Ann. Here's a techno rocker from Side B of her debut album, produced by the Italian with the medallion Giorgio Moroder, and Pete Bellotte (who I've only just found is not Italian at all but from Barnet, Hertfordshire) Oh well, he knew how to knock out a cracking beat and here's one for all those that missed it first time around. It's a thumper, it's a jumper, it's a 1980s street-beat pumper, guaranteed to get everybody just a-humpin' and a-bumpin'...What are we waiting for? Let's Go!

When the only thing to worry about for the soul boys was making sure the bird-hunting procedure and equipment was complete and ready to go. The required number of strategically placed squirts of Giorgio's Beverly Hills For Men. Check. Dead straight creases down front of double reverse pleated pants. Check. 18k gold plated neckchain polished and hanging just right. Check. On-the-go breath freshener pocket dispenser fully stocked. Check. Paperback copy of H.B Gilmour's Saturday Night Fever novel peeking nonchalantly but impressively out of back pocket. Check.
And it was time to beat the street, unload on the road, groove hard on the boulevard, to go where you've been waiting to go all week long... to compete with fellow funksters for the hands of disco dollies under the spinning glitter ball that reflected a thousand hopeful faces as the DJ spun the song that got all the boys a-searchin' and all the girls a-flirtin'.
Yes, mama, it's those long haired disco hippies, fresh from 2001 Odyssey, with our Saturday Night theme tune...
