Thanks!

Mr. & Mrs. Smith? Prizzi's Honor? The Money Pit? When Harry Met Sally? In terms of black comedy, filmmakers go much farther as there's no real constraints put upon them. Bad tatse is also at an all-time high. But I feel they lack the acidic wit of those earlier pictures.

But I feel they lack the acidic wit of those earlier pictures. Like 'His Girl Friday'? I think so. The Coen Brothers and Wes Anderson run their own quirky, individualistic, stylised versions of the old screwball style which I love, but I feel they are far removed from the social realism that arose in screwballs during and after the depression. I'd have thought today's 10-year (and counting) bankers' crisis would have spawned something similar yet we're usually left to contemplate the afterbirth of Richard Curtis' regurgitated pleasantry nightmares.

I think you have never seen a Coen Brothers screwball comedy. Start with Burn After Reading (2008) .Also try Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (1988) dir: Pedro Almodóvar.

Sorry, I somehow missed your mention. But I think that beneath all the fun and games there is a lot of sharp social criticism implied in "Burn After Reading".
