Yeah, R-rating would have killed a major junk of the box office.
Still, I agree that an R-version would be interesting for this kind of film. Upgrade (2018) is a similar film and profited greatly from it's R-rating.
Anyway Venom is highly watchable for Tom Hardy going batshit-crazy alone. Surely they'll release a director's cut with the additional 40min material one day?
