I always watch this classic Canadian slasher annually at Christmas time. Have been for the past 28 years or so. I like this movie. I feel it's a foundation block of the modern slasher like Alfred Hitchcock's classic 'Psycho' (1960).
Bob Clark also looked towards an excellent tv movie for inspiration, Philip Leacock's 'When Michael Calls' (1972). 'When Michael Calls', also known as 'Shattered Silence', is shot by cinematographer Reginald Morris who then filmed 'Black Christmas' and became Clark's regular cinematographer.
When the time came for a remake, Bob Clark supervised Glen Morgan's 'Black Christmas' (2006).

Sounds like a great idea, to watch something counterpunching when things go too sweet and yummy. ![](https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--OYdvFE1C--/c_scale,f_auto,fl_progressive,q_80,w_800/hyh1aa7intbott9vlves.jpg) Olivia Hussey! Whatever happened to her?

Whatever happened to her? She became a favourite of science-fiction, fantasy & horror fans after the success of 'Black Christmas'. She went on to make the dark mysteries 'Death On The Nile' (1978) and 'The Cat And The Canary' (1979) before embarking upon a wave of destruction that included 'Virus' (1980), 'Turkey Shoot' (1982), 'Psycho IV: The Beginning' (1990), 'Save Me' (1994), 'Ice Cream Man' (1995), 'The Dark Mist' (1996) and 'Headspace' (2005). She also found time for some Hong Kong action along the way.

i plan to watch this within the next week. is it better than SISTER? Equally as good. Similar, but different really. Both are intriguing mysteries with strong back stories, black comedy and a sharp psychological edge. Both films are extremely stylish and adventurous in many ways. I'd put both in a list of the great horror films of the 1970s. Hope you enjoy the movie.
