good fun. pasolini maintains the freewheeling dont give a fuck attitude of chaucher's poem. it is damn erotic while also capturing the idyllic life in medieval england. back then, they did not even have books to get distracted by. the only entertainment was sex. and there is a lot of sex in this film. a lot of toilet humor too. next time somebody looks down upon toilet humor (people farting into each other's faces and sticking knives up each other's assholes), show them this film. i had read the poem as part of my english literature course and i always knew THE REEVE's TALE would make a great film.
(7.5/10)

I read Geoffrey Chaucer at school and his work was exactly as you say, fun. I've seen a few Italian films inspired by Pier Paolo Pasolini's medieval excursions that I felt were mostly poor imitations. 'The Canterbury Tales' is a fun film to watch. yes, like this one. it was quite average.

I find when you've seen a few they kind of blend into each other and become largely forgettable. It seems they're rarely championed online even today and perhaps this is for a reason. I just think most of the talented directors who took those assignments didn't really have a feel for the material. The one you've linked is directed by Mario Caiano who made some great horrors, crime films and westerns.
Perhaps the only film I recall that I'd like to see in an improved print is Vittorio De Sisti's 'Fiorina The Cow' (1972) which did make me laugh.
And I do like Sergio Citti's 'Bawdy Tales' (1973) which deserves a strong release from the British Film Institute to reach a new audience. Citti was a poet and associate of Pier Paolo Pasolini. They both worked on the story so it's a cut above.
wow, i dont know where to find all these films. i wish i was really rich and could buy all the blurays.

The only issue you might have is finding appropriate subtitles, which is true any time you don't speak a certain language. That's one reason I like watching silent movies. yes, so many movies available on youtube. movie fans deserve something better than youtube.

The Canterbury Tales is my favorite of Pasolini's medieval trilogy. It is lots of fun, very erotic, with great sets and costumes.

Seen it once, and it's absolutely nuts, meant in a positive way. It's like a West-Berlin Cabaret, lots of body parts showed without clothes.
