I've had an endless amount of imagination/fantasy my entire life, but to this day, could not tell you one great fantasy movie. And I've looked through "realist" fantasy, and still. "I'm 3,000 years old Jesus" movie from about 15 years ago was so stupid. I also don't like when a movie (or writer, usually) takes say Aristotle and adds a few cell phones and a soundtrack made from a keyboard and "drum machine".
Of course, I'll prefer 1930-70s, but even those haven't been all that great.

Are you referring to the man from earth (2007)? Terrible. Not only is it visually limited to one room, the acting is appalling, and the ideas obvious. Still, it has it's ardent fans...as these films do.

I guess maybe it depends on your definition of Fantasy movies but just using IMDb's advanced search a moment ago here is everything it shows tied to Fantasy that I think stands out (i.e. movies I scored a 7 or higher)...
1)Angel-A (2005) - 9/10 2)The Green Mile (1999) - 8-8.5/10 3)TRON: Legacy (2010) - 7.5-8/10 -)Meet Joe Black (1998) 5)Drive Angry (2011) - 7/10
p.s. movies a bit shy of making the above list... City of Angels (1998)/Byzantium (2012-2013)/This is the End (2013)/Man of Steel (2013)/The Family Man (2000). I scored those a 6-6.5/10.

Ron Howard's Willow was a very entertaining film imo . Its been quite some time since I've last seen it though but I remember really liking it (esp Val Kilmer) .

It's a Wonderful Life/Harvey?
When I first saw the question, my immediate thought was Pan's Labyrinth since it's so dark and ambiguous. But it's hard to say without really knowing what you dislike about the genre...Aristotle with a cell phone notwithstanding.

I saw "Pan's Labyrinth" and liked it right up until she meets her new step-father.
