As with Graham Greene, Steinbeck is another of my favorite novelists who was often adapted to film. Here's his resume for the big screen (my favorites with asterisks):
Of Mice and Men (1939) **
The Grapes of Wrath (1940) **
Tortilla Flat (1942) The Moon Is Down (1943) The Pearl a.k.a. La Perla (1947) ** and (2001)
The Red Pony (1949) East of Eden (1955) **
The Wayward Bus (1957)
Cannery Row (1982), adapted from his novels, "Cannery Row" and "Sweet Thursday" In Dubious Battle (2016)

Of Mice & Men and The Grapes of Wrath are both quite good. In Dubious Battle was just awful though I'll applaud Franco for attempting to branch out of his usual slacker comedy schtick.

Haven't seen In Dubious Battle. I feared that Franco wouldn't be up to the effort. But I should probably see it anyway. . .though if you think it's awful. . .well, maybe I better stick with the novel.

He gets credit for the screenplay of LIFEBOAT, but I believe it was extensively reworked by others.

The Grapes of Wrath and East of Eden are the only 2 I've seen and both are very good.

Cannot go wrong with any of these versions of OF MICE AND MEN(Robert Blake and Randy Quaid - TV movie) Have only seen the first one, Bat, which I will always love. One of these days I hope to see the other two, especially the Sinise one. The Blake/Quaid one looks good, too. In regards to tv movies (not really on topic, but in this case interesting), there's a 1968 version with George Segal and Nicol Williamson that looks intriguing. Missed that one, too.

Kazan's excellent EAST OF EDEN only covered about a third of Steinbeck's sprawling, generational epic story.
The 1980s mini-series tried to handle all of it.
I have to say though that Jane Seymour was a sexier 'Kate' than Jo Van Fleet.

Kazan's excellent EAST OF EDEN only covered about a third of Steinbeck's sprawling, generational epic story. Yes, I think they were very smart to approach it that way. They did a masterful job concentrating only on the Cain and Abel story. (I say they because I think screenwriter Paul Osborn deserves a lot of credit for how well the story works, though, of course, Kazan's - and even Steinbeck's - contributions can never be minimized.)
But I did like the mini-series, in part because it re-instated one of my favorite characters, Lee, the housekeeper/cook. And the word, "timshel," (thou mayest), a critical component of the novel's theme. The producer of the mini-series always put "Timshel" on his car tag. And I didn't think I was going to, but I really liked Jane Seymour as Kate.

I did not care for that one … Nicol Williamson just was not Lenny !
I also saw James Earl Jones and Kevin Conway on Broadway and was incredibly disappointed. Jones played Lenny as childish rather than childlike.
Have also not seen the James Franco version that is out there somewhere... yet !

The Grapes of Wrath 1940 is an absolute favorite, it's a masterpiece in filmmaking. East of Eden 1955, is a well made melodrama. The Red Pony 1973, TV-Movie that had a theatrical run in some european countries, I don't remember much of it, to be frank. The above is my own opinions. Below is a bit for the fun of it. Ikimize bir dünya 1962, is a Turkish cinema version of "Of Mice and Men". Topoli 1972 is an Iranian cinema version of "Of Mice and Men"
