In 1991, Magic and the Lakers played in their 9th NBA Finals in 12 years while Jordan and the Bulls played in their 1st NBA Finals. Jordan and the Bulls won and that NBA Finals turned out to be a "Changing of the Guard" as that was the last NBA Finals for Magic and Jordan would go on to become the future of the NBA.
Now we have the same situation in the NFL. The AFC Championship Game will mark a "Changing of the Guard" as this will most likely be the last postseason game for Shady Brady and Patrick Mahomes will most likely become the future of the NFL.

In order for there to be a changing of the guard, one must acknowledge the prominence of the old guard. No doubt, DC-Fan didn’t realize he just did that. Tom Brady and the Patriots are like the dominant Magic Johnson and the Lakers of the eighties. Patrick Mahomes is like ... well ... it’s a bit too early to tell. We’ll revisit his legacy in 20 years.
