El Topo? The Holy Mountain?
I've held off from watching them because I feel like its going to be a bunch of pseudo-mystical mumbo-jumbo, but I keep hearing they're good, so...
What am I in store for?

I saw the wonderful "Jodorowsky's Dune", which is a documentary detailing the process by which he almost filmed an adaptation of Frank Herbert's novel.

He seems intent on delivering outrageous and shocking visual imagery - the holy mountain is an exhibition of grotesque and bizarre scenes based on Jesus Christ. Some of it is eye raising, some of it is sht - literally. I like el topo more, if only because it's got some narrative sense. I never finished santa sangre. Surrealistic stuff I can't take that seriously. Someone's gotta do it, I suppose.

Haven't seen any of his films.
There was a spoof poster for Jodorowsky's Star Wars starring Malcolm McDowell as Luke.

But seeing a movie he actually made has got to be a whole different experience, lol!

I own a DVD collection of all of Jodorowsky's films. Needless to say, they are a "mind f-ck" and not for all tastes. However, it is indeed unique cinema.

I've seen a few.
'The Severed Heads' (1957) - You can see Alejandro Jodorowsky's short film 'The Severed Heads' on youtube. It's called 'La Cravate'.
'Fando Y Lis' (1968) - His first feature's based on a play by Spanish writer Fernando Arrabal. Jodorowsky was in the Panic Movement with Arrabal. They worked in French theatre and were influenced by the Theatre of Cruelty. Both Arrabal and Jodorowsky worked with puppeteering and performance art which is reflected in this film's imagery.
'El Topo' (1970) - An acid western. There were a few made around this time.
'The Holy Mountain' (1973) - I guess it's a bit like a deconstructed religious parable or some might say a mess. I don't know anything. I read that Jodorowsky liked Luis Bunuel's films like 'Simon Of The Desert' (1965) and 'The Milky Way' (1969) which satirise religious experience.
'Tusk' (1980) - Drama based on a novel by British writer Reginald Campbell. It's about an elephant that goes on the run.
'Santa Sangre' (1989) - Religious horror about circus life. I think performance art is at its core.
'The Rainbow Thief' (1990) - Drama with some big stars.
'The Dance Of Reality' (2013) - Semi-autobiographical film featuring friends and family members. Jodorowsky's home Tocopilla in Chile is featured.
'Endless Poetry' (2016) - Another semi-autobiographical film, a companion piece to 'The Dance Of Reality', journeys to Santiago.

What am I in store for? A bunch of pseudo-mystical mumbo-jumbo. I watched The Holy Mountain last month. Partly because it's the favorite movie of YourMovieSucks, a Youtuber I sometimes enjoy. And partly because I'd heard (maybe from YMS himself) that it's something of a self-parody and mockery of pretentious art - a scene with a conveyor belt for ass-imprint paintings being used as a prime example. However, when I watched it, all I saw was...pretentious art, in earnest, specifically tailored for religious hippie stoners. I figured maybe the "joke" just flew over my head, but after watching Jodorowsky's Dune and seeing what an insufferable egomaniac he is, I think I had it right.

The only one I've seen is The Holy Mountain. I like eccentric films, but it was like an unpleasant acid trip. I had to struggle to get through it. After it was over I felt exhausted with no desire to watch it again.

Well then, I guess we're all agreed that his we're glad he didn't get to do his Dune. It might have been visually amazing, IF he got the right budget for it, but it would have been unbearable mess.
Cant wait for the Denis Villeneuv version coming up. He's a solid filmmaker.
