Great vampire flick. Pretty good scene but the dialogue is disappointing. Corny or something. Some vampires speak in the film but it's not human speak if you know what I mean. Then this she speaks in a little girl voice totally understandable. It just seems out of place in regard to the rest of the film. Anyhoo, I'm watching tonight as it's very cold and snowing and enjoying this great vampire flick very much.

I liked the idea and the vampires were scary looking. I hated that weird guy in the jail. I think they blew the ending. The story was presenting the vampires in a somewhat realistic fashion, and they introduced the grinding machine. I just assumed they would rig a trap to put the vampires in there!
Also Mark Boone Junior gets crushed--I assume that was a joke reference since he also had a vampire death in Vampires.
I was impressed with the FX--since some of the night scenes were done indoors or some other tricks.

A very good film with a gripping build-up and terrifying predicament, although I do find it to run out of steam by the end.

Love it, near the top of my Winter Horrors list, along with The Shining and Cold Prey.

I never really thought about how her human voice was sort of out of place before. Good catch.
I remember really enjoying the movie when I saw it in the theater. I appreciated the very gritty animal like depiction of the vampires.

Very good vampire movie. I love the monster type vampires. The savage ones that just kill like animals and have no weakness except sunlight.

I love the movie, enjoyed its pace and the vampire work. It's special effects was quite striking throughout. The movie does have some flaws, though. I agree, the dialogue in this movie was kind of boring. Both by the living and the vampires. There's really only a handful of memorable quotes in the entire film. I didn't mind the foreign vampire language, but I was hoping we'd have some more background stuff about the vampires themselves. Even if only spoken in their language amongst themselves. Oh, well.
The Little Vampire Girl... I always felt she was a victim who was bit and then survived. This is never explained in the movie. And I haven't ever gone into doing any research looking up the answer or fan theories online. But I'll tell you why I think she was a little girl bitten, but survived, and not one of the arriving vampires like the others.
- She just doesn't fit that vampire group. I think it would almost lessen them to have a vampire-kid amongst them. Similar to how Armand (Antonio Banderas from "Interview With The Vampires") and his band of theater vampires were against vampire children. I think Armand even referred to vampire children as forbidden, talking about Claudia.
- She speaks perfect English. The head male vampire shows he knows English or at least some form of it. He quotes "God", before his group of vamps murder that woman. To me, he's against anything modern or living. If you look at the grungy man, The Stranger (Ben Foster), who did everything in support of the vampires, to become a vampire. Has his neck snapped as his reward.
- Eben (Josh Hartnett), upon killing the little vampire girl, immediately turns to the group of survivors and asks, "Does anybody recognize her?". He could've easily said a line of something like, "They have children fighting for them!", or something of that nature. Eben himself believes it was a girl who was accidently turned from their community.
- Eben just earlier had seen the man John Riis, the respectable member of the community who had his dogs killed, be turned into a vampire accidentally. An accident by the vampires but a clear example that could have happened to the little girl. It would make more sense that John Riis was not the only accidental-bite.
- I also always thought it was interesting that the female and male lead vampires have names. Marlow (Danny Huston) and Iris (Megan Franich), who definitely have some kind of bond. Not romantically, but maybe just history. Although, their names are never spoken in the entire film, they have names. Where as the little girl vampire has no name.
- I did see a promotional poster of the three vampires: Marlow, Iris, and The Little Vampire Girl. Which you could say makes them look like they come from the same group. Even all of their characters were made into action figures, the Little Girl Vampire being the rarest. But then why does it never become an issue to Marlow in the film. When she dies, she dies. It's no loss to anyone. So I think this was just a promotional poster.
Lol anywho, this is what I got. Take my theory for what it's worth. I believe, 12 years later since the movie came out, the Little Vampire Girl was someone's niece or relative not from Eben's community, in a wrong place wrong time vampire situation. When turned, like John Riis, she needed to feed. Unlike Riis, she acted as a kid with it and maybe killed a couple hiding survivors from maybe another hidden group like Eben's. "I'm done playing with this one, do you want to play with me now?"
