I don't agree with Marc completely here. Marc might be a little overly harsh with his critique. Where as Kevin might be over zealous with his critique of the movie. A lot of that over zealous comes from the fact that he wants DC to succeed no matter what. I think Kevin's main complaint was that there was too much Aquaman. Like the makers were like they aren't going to let us make a second one so lets pack as much Aquaman we can into this movie.
In my own little review I stated that the only emotional connection I felt to a character was Thomas Curry. Also didn't feel that much of a connection between characters. The best you got was Arthur and Thomas then Manta and his father. I went as far as to say the connection between Bumblebee and Charlie in Bumblebee was stronger than any 2 characters in Aquaman. That can usually torpedo a movie. (See what I did there?), but with Aquaman it didn't. Jason carries the movie on pure Charisma. Aquaman did exactly what I wanted it to do. It was fun, engaging, and kept me thoroughly entertained for 2 hours. (It could've been trimmed down about 15 minutes and I would've loved a different actress playing Mera, but we can't have everything.)
So when Marc says that Aquaman doesn't change/learn on his hero's journey. I will agree with him to a point. I just stated in as more of a positive way. Jason carries the movie completely with his charisma. The movie is built on the foundation of Jason's charisma, not strength of Aquaman's hero's journey. It's also not built on the foundation of characters connection on an emotional level. I also agree with Marc when he says that Manta and his father have the strongest emotional connection. I disagree with Marc when he says that Arthur doesn't have a want in the movie. I feel Arthur wants begrudgingly to be accepted by Land Dwellers and Atlantians.
Well enough of me talking about their review. Their reviews is slightly broken up buy a 3d printed Jesus, but lasts about 10 minutes.
Marc did catch on to something I haven't heard anybody complain about yet. You know how everyone had a problem with Batman showing back up in Gotham after escaping the Prison in Dark Knight Rises? People counter argued that with because he's Batman. Well in Aquaman you have Mera and Arthur jump out of a plane in the middle of The Sahara Desert. You see them get the riddle/info and the map in the bottle. Then it hard cuts to Sicily Italy. Yet I've not seen anybody bring that up crossing the line of believably.
